Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order – Dark Temple #1

/ / Comics
  • Title: Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order – Dark Temple #1 (of 5)
  • Comic Vine: link
  • Writer: Ian Flynn
  • Artist: Tony Fleecs

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order - Dark Temple #1 comic reviewThe most interesting aspect of the first issue of the new Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order – Dark Temple are the first few pages as we see an Inquisitor arrive on the Battlefield. Sent by the Emperor, Second Sister discovers a group of Stormtroopers in a bunker fighting the last hold out of the locals, unable to move forward, and frightened of a legend growing in their midst that a Jedi exists on the other side.

From there the comic drops back into extended flashbacks for the remainder of the issue introducing us to the calm Jedi Master Eno Cordova and his impulsive Padawan Cere Junda (who nearly ruins a peaceful negotiations in an unrelated story that introduces the pair). When a temple is discovered on the planet Ontotho, the Jedi are sent to investigate.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chosen Ones

/ / Comics

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chosen Ones comic reviewBuffy the Vampire Slayer: Chosen Ones offers three separate tales of Slayers who came before Buffy Summers. “The Mission” involves the arrival of a new Watcher in the Sunnydale mission in 1808 after the death of his cousin by vampires and the rise of a new Slayer from the Chumash tribe named Hutash (who isn’t all that keen on the Spaniard mansplaining Slayer lore to her on their way to prevent the opening of the Hellmouth).

The first of the back-up stories, “The Eating of Men,” centers around the young Silvia Placida Ramberti who is curious about the man-eater discussed in the village… until it turns out to be her nanny.

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #266

/ / Comics

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #266 comic reviewG.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #266 begins a new arc with Cobra Commander giving in to his obsession about Snake Eyes and enlisting Dr. Mindbender and his new MX-005 drone to do a little snooping in the Joe’s home base. Although he misses the small detail that the current Snake Eyes is actual Throwdown (and not the original), the drone does pick up quite a bit of action as Snake Eyes is able to hold his own against Helix, Scarlett, Bombstrike, and Jinx.

Whether or not replacing Snake Eyes is a good idea for the comic (worthy of a much deeper discussion), the issue certainly sells the new version’s prowess (both to the Joes and to Cobra) highlighted by Robert Atkins’s art featuring the impressive new Snake Eyes in action.

Batman/Superman #1

/ / Comics

Batman/Superman #1 comic reviewThe new volume of Batman/Superman launches with Superman being called to Gotham City. A young boy has gone missing and all evidence points to the return of The Batman Who Laughs (Bruce Wayne from Earth-22 who was infected by that dimension’s Joker and has since become a hybrid of the two characters). Loose again on Earth-1, Batman and Superman team-up to find the missing boy and the villain who has teased the idea of turning all heroes into something just like him.

I was never really sold on the character of The Batman Who Laughs, but he’s largely absent here having already put his plan into motion. His choice of a new Robin creates much larger problems for The Dark Knight and the Man of Tomorrow when they realize Billy Batson (and his alter-ego) are now completely insane.
