Angel #1

Angel #1 comic reviewThe first issue of Angel (discounting the zero issue, which was more of a tease about Angel‘s time before heading to Sunnydale) feels a bit disconnected with the new Buffyverse, making it hard to judge where exactly it fits in the greater scheme of things. Despite the character’s first appearance being in the current BOOM! Studios Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic, the storyline here follows a completely different path.

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #262

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #262 comic reviewG.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #262 isn’t a great issue for members of Cobra. Desto and the Baroness‘ attempt to take out Revanche ends poorly for the pair when they find themselves up against an artificial intelligence that takes control them both. Now, what does it have planned?

While the Joes successfully find the various devices Dr. Mindbender hid within the prosthetic he offers to Sightline (although perhaps not all of them – don’t get too cocky there Duke), the gift does return news to an irate Cobra Commander that the Joes have more than one Snake Eyes on the roster. As for Sightline, the integration of the new limb is near instantaneous and gives the soldier back full use of faculties (perhaps even enhancing them a bit).

The Wild Storm #23

The Wild Storm #23 comic reviewThe Wild Storm #23 picks up at the exact moment where the previous issue left off, with the a giant Jenny Mei Sparks made out of electricity swatting down flying saucers. Seriously, do you need to know anything more? Okay, then…

The rest of the (still not yet named) Authority is here as well. After the heroes successfully stop Skywatch‘s attack, Henry Bendix triggers a control within all his experiments – sending them to New York to attack I.O.‘s headquarters. This includes Apollo and Midnighter, who are only stopped by some split-second timing thanks to Angie‘s doors and Shen who returns the two men’s identities to them and later gets them caught up on the oddball group they now find themselves a part of. Welcome to the team.

Action Comics #1011

Action Comics #1011 comic review“Leviathan Rising” continues as Superman and Lois investigate, searching for the truth about the attack on all the DCU spy agencies that has left Spyral, the DEO, Checkmate, and others all crippled. With a source offering them intelligence on Spyral, and confirmation from Manhunter, the two have enough for their front page story about what has happened. However, the real question is what is going to happen next?

The best action from Action Comics #1011 comes from its opening pages as task force from remaining federal agencies target Kate Spencer who they believe to be connected to the Leviathan attacks. Despite their best attempts to take her into custody, Manhunter escapes.
