The initial arc of the new Justice League Unlimited comic continues. In Costa Rica, Superman leads a team of Wonder Woman, Mary Marvel, Star Sapphire, Martian Manhunter, Black Lightning, and Dr. Occult against Parademons. A wounded Batman arrives with even graver news about stolen children, sending some of the team after the Parademon nest and others in search of the kids.

The second issue of the relaunched series gives us the end and aftermath of the Cobra raid on G.I. JOE which turned out to be highly successful (although Cobra may have brought more back than they intended). G.I. JOE #2 gives us plenty of Duke‘s hotheadedness pushing for one last surge to stop Cobra before end, and, later while receiving treatment, getting into a fight with the newest member of the squad Risk. On the battlefield, Duke’s actions earns the respect of his enemies, but will continually going off half-cocked cause trust issue with his friends?

Renee Montoya continues her new job as the sheriff of the Watchtower which turns into even more of a hairball on day two. First, someone lets loose one of the deadlier animals from the Watchtower’s Menagerie. Second someone appearing to be Batwoman, takes the beast to the Question’s quarters to loose it onto one of the Challengers of the Unknown who it almost mauls to death. Oh, and when that fails, the Eradicator shows up with a stolen power ring for a second murder attempt.

I wasn’t expecting a Columbo episode out of the latest issue of Wonder Woman, but that’s exactly what Wonder Woman #16 delivers. With Wonder Woman spending time in Themyscira with her mother Hippolyta and her daughter Lizzie, retribution comes to the Sovereign from an unexpected source. Diana doesn’t make a move against him herself, but the death of a thousand cuts to the secret organization continues with the arrival of an unexpected guest.

Taking break from the standoff between Jenny Sparks and Captain Atom, Jenny Sparks #5 works as something of an origin issue offering flashbacks to both Captain Atom’s origins and to Jenny Sparks’ recruitment by Superman and Batman. The latter provides the big laughs of the issue while the former helps reintroduce the character of Atom and restate the challenges Jenny has in dealing with him through her discussion of one of the hostages whose cancer he cured.
