Transformers #29 provides the kind of big battle you always want to see between the robots in disguise when the Decepticons attack the Ark. The issue is full of characters from both factions, and a ton of action, but the primary reason to pick up issue #29 is the extended pairing off between fully healthy Optimus Prime and Megatron for the first time in the run. In the words of Dr. Ishiro Serizawa, “Let them fight.”

In what must now be the fourth of fifth relaunched Moon Knight title from writer Jed MacKay (honestly who can keep track at this point), Marc Spector: Moon Knight #1 opens with a disoriented Marc Spector trapped in an elaborate simulation by Mr. Fear and Agence Byzantine in which he’s cut-off from Khonshu and his real life. However, even doped up, set in a fictional office scenario with an objective to achieve, Marc Spector subconsciously continues to fight back inventing a hero for him to believe in.

Thundarr the Barbarian #1

Demon Dogs! Despite its short run of only 21 episodes, during the most competitive age of Saturday morning cartoons, 1980’s Thundarr the Barbarian left its mark. Set in a dystopian future ruled by savagery, super-science, and sorcery, kids were introduced to the barbarian Thundarr and his companions the sorceress Princess Ariel and Ookla the Mok (obviously a Chewbacca-inspired sidekick). Created by Steve Gerber, with character and world design from both Alex Toth and Jack Kirby (yes, that Jack Kirby), and beating He-Man to television by three years, the cartoon would leave quite an impression on children of a certain age.

Iron Man #1

A new volume of Iron Man begins here leading to the inevitable new take on his armor (and my mixed reaction to it). In terms of storyline, the opening arc sets up A.I.M. attempting to rehabilitate the evil scientist collective which has become largely a punchline in recent years. Helping to do that is casting Madame Masque as the group’s field leader in acquiring young finalists for the first ever Tony Stark Award and kidnapping them in hopes of finding a genius capable of taking them to a new level.

On the planet Nagi, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Rynn Zenat, and Beilert Valance search for the Dark Azanti witch Reyna Oskure who has been secretly pulling the strings causing the conflict among the New Republic, the Pirrosi, and the Nagai. Oskure is an interesting enemy, hiding behind-the-scenes, although we finally do get a face-to-face meeting at the end of the comic.
