Planetary #1

Planetary #1

Wayback Wednesday takes us back to the introduction of the Archaeologists of the Impossible. Debuting in 1998 under the WildStorm brand, Planetary #1 opened the door to a world of possibilities introducing a secret organization who investigated all kinds of weird and amazing things over the comic’s 27 issues. We start with the recruitment of the grumpy Elijah Snow, born on January 1, 1900 (an important date for not just this comic by the wider WildStorm Universe) now spending his days in the middle of nowhere. Enter Jakita Wagner offering the old man a job, to work for Planetary and investigate the weirdness of the secret history of the world beyond what anyone knows is possible.

Nightwing #115

Nightwing #115

Continuing the “Fallen Grayson” arc, Nightwing #115 picks up at events of the fundraiser spoiled by Heartless. The entire event was staged to get his hands on Dick Grayson (and underneath Batman‘s nose, which might be the hardest aspect of the story to accept). After discovering his secret, and realizing he can remove two enemies (both Grayson and Nightwing) in one fell swoop, Heartless enacts the next stage of his plan framing Dick Grayson for his crimes by drugging him, dressing him up as the super-villain, putting a gun and victim at his feet, and leading the police to the crime scene.

Destro #1

Destro #1

Set in the new combined G.I. JOE / Transformers Engergon Universe, Destro #1 works as a reintroduction to the character. Using the Energon supplied by Cobra Commander, Destro uses the new prototype B.A.T.s to settle a personal score and set up a relative on the throne of the Republic of Darklonia. The test is a mixed success, in taking over the country (but also having no control of the bloodthirsty soldiers who kill friend and foe indiscriminately) and also raises the ire of Cobra for such a public demonstration.

Wonder Woman #10

Wonder Woman #10

Wonder Woman #10 concludes the storyline of the Sovereign attempting to break down Wonder Woman  without wrapping up the entire arc. Having been unable to beat Diana with hired guns, the United States Army, or weeks of torture, the Sovereign looks to let Wonder Woman’s greatest enemy do their job for them as they drop Wonder Woman off on an island in the middle of nowhere where the only other inhabitant is Cheetah. The result is another great story of Wonder Woman kicking some butt while also showing some heart with the frenemy who knows her as well as anyone else on the planet.
