Before there were Mean Girls, there were Heathers. Winona Ryder stars as the newest addition to the teenage clique, known as Heathers because the other three girls are all named Heather (Kim Walker, Lisanne Falk, and Shannen Doherty), that runs the Westerburg High School. Already struggling with the cruelty of the head Heather (Walker), Veronica (Ryder) meets new transfer student JD (Christian Slater) who is just reckless and dangerous enough (including shooting blanks at two high school jocks) to garner her attention.

Delinquent Schoolgirls

After breaking out of an asylum for the criminally insane, three wacky inmates (Stephen Stucker, Bob Minor, and Michael Pataki) make their way to a strict all-girl boarding school (whose student body was cast mostly from porn stars and centerfolds of the mid 1970s leading to some pretty dreadful acting across the board), by way of pleasuring a sexually-frustrated farmer’s wife. Attempting to play up the humor by making the trio a bit more bumbling than dangerous, there’s still plenty of questionable activity here, much of it which can’t simply be laughed off.

1995’s Copycat is more notable for its casting of two female leads, neither relegated to a romantic interest, while still relying on the typical Hollywood serial killer script complete with plot holes and an absurd final act. Sigourney Weaver stars as former serial killer expert Dr. Helen Hudson who goes into seclusion after nearly being killed by the disturbed Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick Jr.) following on of her lectures. Sometime later, having noticed a pattern in a series of killings around San Francisco, the agorophobic Helen reaches out to the police with her theory.

Snow White and the Seven Samurai

  • Title: Snow White and the Seven Samurai

The Asylum’s 2024 mockbuster Snow White and the Seven Samurai is odd little low budget, straight-to-video, flick that seems to exist only because both Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Seven Samurai have the number 7 in the title. Fiona Dorn “stars” as the daughter of a mobster (Eric Roberts) known for his heavy cocaine distribution (earing her the nickname Snow White – despite no one actually calling her that).

Raw Deal

Inarguably lesser Schwarzenegger, Flashback Friday takes us 40 years to 1986’s Raw Deal when Hollywood was still struggling with turning the former bodybuilder into a consistent blockbuster action star. Perhaps not surprisingly, throwing Arnold Schwarzenegger into the middle of a crime drama as a blackballed cop turned small town sheriff working undercover with the mob, with no sense of humor given the absurdity of such an idea, isn’t the most believable of scenarios.
