Premiering on the Disney Channel 20 years ago, and quicky becoming the most successful original TV-movie for the channel, High School Musical took the Romeo & Juliet-esque themes of mismatched lovers to high school to the delight of audiences with its choreographed dance numbers, pop hits, and the kind of warm fuzzy tone where despite all obstacles you know everything will turn out all right in the end.

The film’s soundtrack (including “Start of Something New,” “What I’ve Been Looking For,” “Stick to the Status Quo,” “When There Was Me and You,” and “Bop to the Top“) became the best-selling album of the year, and the TV-movie launched the careers of Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale.

In the course of afternoon, Kevin’s interactions with Jeff lead him to be hunted by armed mercenaries and mistaken for a child abductor along with Jeff, who actually is one (hardy har har, ain’t child kidnapping hilarious?).

Ash

I enjoy amnesiac stories, whether the character is missing just a day or their entire lives, and watching the process of them solving the mystery of who they are (ending in the obvious question of whether, through that process, they are still the same person). I’m also a sucker for both sci-fi and Eiza González who is certainly the highlight cast in the central role of a space explorer waking up on an alien planet with all of the other crew dead and no idea what happened.
