The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is a movie set in one corner of The Lord of the Rings Universe. Sadly, it’s not a particularly interesting corner devoid of anyone other than the squabbling humans of Rohan. Providing the storyline of how Helm’s Deep got its name, the story revolves around the pride of men and quest for vengeance that ends badly for all. Honestly, I’m bewildered why anyone thought this was the story to expand the universe of Tolkien beyond The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

The sequel to 2014’s Paddington brings back the cast for another adventure this time swapping out Nicole Kidman for Hugh Grant as the film’s villain. The trope of the obviously innocent hero being convicted for a crime no one believes he committed is one of my least favorite, but Paddington 2 makes it work by tapping into the same earnestness and heartfelt nature of the original film.
