  • Title: Legacies – Season Three
  • wiki: link

The Third Season of Legacies continues to focus on Malivore as the Necromancer (Ben Geurens) attempts to bring back the creature. Much of the season also deals with Hope‘s (Danielle Rose Russell) reaction to the loss of Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) whose return would be teased in a number of ways. We also see the exit of Rafael (Peyton ‘Alex’ Smith)  as a core character and the introduction of a new character in the muse Cleo (Omono Okojie) whose past connection to Malivore makes her an ally, albeit one with secrets, and the struggle to keep the school open when many parents pull their children out of a place where monsters attack on a daily basis.

All 16 episodes are collected on DVD. Highlights of the season include the Star Wars inspired episode, Josie (Kaylee Bryant), Hope, and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) spending time in a cult, and a musical episode

WWE Day 1 (2022)

  • Title: WWE Day 1 (2022)

One of the better WWE “premium live events” in recent memory, WWE Day 1 offered a major shake-up to the card with news breaking that morning that Roman Reigns (who was the sole wrestler on the original promotional poster for the event) had tested positive for COVID. This caused the cancelling the scheduled main event and adding challenger Brock Lesnar to fatal four-way match making it a fatal five-way as WWE seemed determined to get a major title on Lesnar no matter what.

The unexpected shake-up of the card helped wake WWE from it’s sleepwalking booking style of the last six months (although sadly the practice would resume once Roman Reigns returned from his short hiatus). The result was some genuine surprise over a WWE show which fans have seen damn little of recently.

Roxanne

Cyrano de Bergerac, the 19th Century play by Edmond Rostand, has been adapted more than two dozen times over the years for film and television (including a new version starring Peter Dinklage). By far, my favorite take on the story of the remarkable man with wit, cunning, athleticism, the heart of a poet, and an comedically large nose that keeps him from sharing his affections with the one he loves, came in the form of 1987’s Roxanne released in theaters 35 years ago.

Steve Martin stars as Charlie “C.D.” Bales, the fire chief of one of the most inept fire departments in the country. Into his life walks Roxanne (Daryl Hannah), far more than a pretty face, as a beautiful astronomy PhD student renting a home in the small town from C.D.’s god-daughter Dixie (Shelley Duvall) while mending a broken heart and searching the stars for a comet.

The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild

  • Title: The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild
  • IMDb: link

Originally conceived as a TV-series, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild becomes the sixth film in the Ice Age franchise. Despite the title, the main character of the film isn’t the one-eye adventurous weasel Buck (Simon Pegg) but instead the irresponsible possums Crash (Vincent Tong) and Eddie (Aaron Harris) who leave the rest of the Ice Age regulars and set off to prove they can make it on their own.

The pair’s journey leads back into the Lost World where a Protoceratops  (Utkarsh Ambudkar) is planning on taking over with an army of Raptors. Sticking close to Buck and his old friend Zee (Justina Machado), by far the most interesting character on-screen, Crash and Eddie cause chaos with their mindless antics while eventually learning how to help.

Stargirl – The Complete Second Season

  • Title: Stargirl – Season Two
  • wiki: link

The Second Season of Stargirl finds Courtney (Brec Bassinger) forced to attend summer school and deal with the arrival of Eclipso in Blue Valley. It will be a tumultuous season for the new JSA as Eclipso targets various members of the team forcing Yolanda (Yvette Monreal) to quit her role as Wildcat and Rick (Cameron Gellman) to end up in prison after loosing his temper.

The season offers a number of flashbacks to the original team, including (in the season’s stand-out episode) the big reveal of how the JSA were able to defeat Eclipso and the consequences from the encounter which was the beginning of the end for the group. We also see the fallout of season one on several characters and the struggle for Mike (Trae Romano) to find a role within the group.
