Maleficent

Given the disappointment of both Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror, Mirror I have some doubt about yet another attempt at a live-action version of one of Disney’s most respected films. Although the trailer doesn’t really answer whether or not a version of Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent‘s (Angelina Jolie) point of view can work, I’m certainly impressed with the design and look of the film in the glimpse we get with this “Dream” teaser trailer (and the teaser poster ain’t half bad, either). Opening in theaters on July 29th, the film also stars Elle Fanning, Juno Temple, Sharlto Copley, Peter Capaldi, and Brenton Thwaites.

Following the release of Justice League: War in two weeks, we now have our first trailer for DC Animated’s next project which will apparently by a (very loose) adaptation of Grant Morrison’s Batman & Son storyline that introduced Batman (Jason O’Mara) and the world to Damian Wayne (Stuart Allan). Morena Baccarin, Giancarlo Esposito, Thomas Gibson, and Cameron Bowen also lend their voices to the project. Although I have problems with Morrison’s story (which completely ignored the fertile ground laid by Mike Barr) and have trouble seeing how the addition of Deathstroke will help matters, I’m glad to see DC bringing back Damian in any form and I’ve got to admit this one interests me far more than Justice League: War.

News and NotesUSA Today is reporting Wally West will race into the New 52 Universe later this Spring in The Flash Annual #3 which follows the confirmation that Stephanie Brown will also make her first New 52 appearance in Batman: Eternal #3

Variety is reporting that A24 has purchased the distribution rights to Laggies after its premiere at Sundance this weekend. The film starring Keira Knightley, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Sam Rockwell should see release later this summer

The Playlist has a review for writer/director Richard Linklater‘s Boyhood starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette which was filmed over the course of 12 years and should receive at least a limited theatrical release from IFC Films later this year
