Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel Studios has released the first promotional pic for next Spring’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Although we’re only shown the back of Captain America (Chris Evans) in heavy shadow, it does appear the costume will be closer to the one that appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger than the one Evans wore in The Avengers. R.I.P. Roger Ebert (1942 – 2013)

news-and-notes-roger-ebertWe’ve lost a good one. Sad to report that movie critic Roger Ebert has passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer. I’ll always remember Ebert best debating with Gene Siskel on Sneak Previews and later At the Movies, which was my introduction to film criticism. Gene Siskel passed away in 1999 (has it really been that long?), and now his former friend and confidant, who continued to give his thumbs up and thumbs down on movie reviews for more than 40 years, has passed away as well. It’s hard to imagine what modern film criticism and movie reviews would be like without the influence of Ebert and the thousands, and thousands of reviews he wrote over the years. Much like Siskel, he will be missed. For more on the man check out this piece from the Chicago Sun-Times where Ebert worked reviewing movies for 46 years.

bruce-timm-jlu-newsComic Book Resources is reporting Bruce Timm is stepping down as supervising producer at Warner Bros. Animation. Timm has been a guiding force behind DC Animation for decades begining with providing nearly all the designs for the look, style, and characters of Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, and Justice League. Although DC has moved increasingly away from his style in recent years (a style I would love to see flourish in comics), Timm has continued to produce DC’s animated films and series including Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Justice League: Doom, Batman: Year One, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part I and Part II, All-Star Superman, and Batman: Under the Red Hood.
