Hey comic junkies, today we’ve got DC movie news for you.  In case you haven’t heard here’s the latest scoop on some upcoming comic book films.  Frank Miller announced the casting of Gabriel Macht (The Good Shepherd, A Love Song for Bobby Long) for the title role in Miller’s newest comic adaptation of The Spirit.

The sequel to Superman Returns entitled Superman: Man of Steel (first, let me stop her to congratulate DC Comics for having the balls to name the sequels off comics unlike Marvel who chicken-shitted themselves out of the idea for The Amazing Spider-man and Web of Spider-Man in favor of just numbering the Spidey sequels) will have two villains according to returning director Bryan Singer.  No word yet if Kevin Spacey, returning as Lex Luther, counts as one of the new baddies.

As our pals at Scene Stealers already announced the lovely and talented Carla Gugino (Karen Sisco Sin City, The Lookout, Spin City, Night at the Museum) will round out the cast of Watchmen and play Sally Jupiter, AKA the Silk Spectre.  For a full cast list check out this post from our pals over as Scene Stealers.

Finally, for you Marvel fans, Marvel has announced Mathew Vaughn (Stardust) will direct the new feature film Thor based on the blonde-haired Marvel Comics version of the Norse God of Thunder who was created back in 1962 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

We’re under a year away to the sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins (read Aaron’s review).  I’ve been a little less than thrilled with what I’ve seen and heard so far about the project.  But to wet the appetites of the comic nerds who have already started a countdown to next summer’s The Dark Knight, here’s the teaser trailer for the film.  Enjoy.  Larger trailer available in the Full Diagnosis.

On my Best and Worst of 2007 (so far) I called this wonderful little British farce “the best comedy of the year (so far),” and it is.  With a stellar cast which includes Matthew McFayden, Rupert Graves, Peter Dinklage, Ewen Bremner, Daisy Donovan, Keeley Hawes, Jane Asher, and the hilarious Alan Tudyk (Wash of Firefly fame), the laughs just keep coming.  Check out the official site.  The film, finally, opens in limited release in select cities on Friday so make sure you check back for the review!

I love me some King Arthur, but I’m not exactly sure what to make of this new film.  The Last Legion focuses on the fall of Rome and the Emperor Romulus Augustus’ (Thomas Sangster) escape to England, the sword known as Excaliburnus, and the beginning of legend.  Colin Firth, Ben Kingsley, Aiswarya Rai, John Hannah, and RazorFine favorite Alexander Siddig also star.  Check out the official site.  The film opens in theaters everywhere on Friday.
