Scooby-Doo! – Revenge of the Swamp Monster!

Scooby Sunday takes us back to the first episode of Scooby Doo and Guess Who? which used a similar concept to The New Scooby Doo Movies in providing a guest-star of the week to help solve a mystery, first up was professional basketball player Chris Paul (voiced by Paul). The concept around the episode is a bit convoluted, but it shakes down in Paul asking for Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) to be his caddy in a charity golf tournament which benefits the funding of a local school. Sadly, a Swamp Monster has been terrorizing the tournament and either kidnapping or scaring off several of the golfers.

Smallville – Cool

Smallville Saturday takes us back to the creation of a new meteor freak of the week when high-school lothario Sean Kelvin (Michael Coristine) gets trapped under the ice in the meteor-filled Cater Lake and emerges with permanent hypothermia and a need to draw on fire, electricity, or the body heat of others to stay warm. That’s trouble for his ex-girlfriend Jenna (Tania Saulnier) who doesn’t survive her final encounter with Sean and for Chloe (Allison Mack) who has drawn the attention of the oh too cool football player whose touch can kill. Sean’s powers somewhat mirror that of longtime Superman villain Parasite, who feeds on the energy of others, although the inclusion of his powers being cold-based are quite different.

Futurama – How the West Was 1010001

“How the West Was 1010001” is one of those one-joke episodes, this one featured around the group mining for Bitcoin in Futurama‘s version of the Old West (despite that making absolutely no sense). While I’m all for the show taking some cheap shots at Bitcoin, there’s not much else here. The episode is notable for the Mexican standoff we get near the end between several characters in the middle of main street and some usual goofiness by the characters in a different setting than normal, this time in the obligatory cowboy hats.

Almost Paradise – Deus Ex-Wife Machina

  • Title: Almost Paradise – Deus Ex-Wife Machina

The problem with introducing a character’s ex on a show like Almost Paradise is the narrow focus on the current contentious relationship without also providing a glimpse of how these characters ever got together. “Deus Ex-Wife Machina” introduces us to Lisa Brenner as Claire who arrives on the island with her new fiancé (Josh Adamson) to force Alex (Christian Kane) to sign divorce papers. Realizing she needs something from him, and he could drag out the process preventing her new marriage, does she come in cordially playing up their history? No, she goes immediately into the ball-busting mode of the cliched ex giving neither Alex nor the audience a reason to offer her the benefit of the doubt. After being married to Alex for long enough to have a child together, she’d definitely know she’s picked the wrong tact.
