Foundation – Shadows in the Math

  • Title: Foundation – Shadows in the Math
  • IMDb: link

“Shadows in the Math” opens with a narrated montage filling in some of the history of the Second Foundation by showcasing Hari Seldon (Jared Harris) and Gaal Dornick (Lou Llobell) awoken from cryosleep for a few weeks at a time teaching Psychohistory to the generations of the hidden Foundation, working to help the Foundation grow and weaken the Empire, and preparing them to fight the Mule (making another huge divergence to the original source material where Seldon’s original calculations didn’t account for unpredictable mutations like the Mule pulling the ebb of history so far off his predicted path). Eventually, Seldon chooses to stay awake at longer intervals to keep things on track prior to his death before the show bounces back to the “present” and the time of the Mule (Pilou Asbæk).

Ironheart – We in Danger, Girl / Bad Magic

  • Title: Ironheart – We in Danger, Girl / Bad Magic

“We in Danger, Girl” and “Bad Magic” are where Riri Williams‘ (Dominique Thorne) life takes a turn. More interested in investigating the Hood‘s (Anthony Ramos) than doing her part in the next heist, for no real reason other than curiosity, Riri nearly botches another robbery and her actions not only cause to be killed (Manny Montana) but also throw the life of Joe (Alden Ehrenreich), who it turns out isn’t really Joe, into chaos allowing the Hood to recruit him as well. The two episode arc is all about bad decisions and regret and Riri creating a number of enemies who now want her dead. Of course what this means is that Riri doesn’t get to make a hero turn but will be forced into becoming on due the fallout of her own actions.  That’s not the most intriguing hero’s journey.

Rick and Morty – Cryo Mort a Rickver

  • Title: Rick and Morty – Cryo Mort a Rickver

“Cryo Mort a Rickver” is a thinly-written premise that allows for constant craziness when Rick (Ian Cardoni) and Morty‘s (Harry Belden) attempt to loot a cyroship lead to the accidental awakening of the crew and the pair attempting to fake being part of those awoken. For Rick, this means pretending to be preadolescent whose appearance is explained by something having gone wrong with his pod. Sadly for Morty, he ends up not as a rich traveler but as a member of the underclass of the crew who he unintentionally inspires to rise up causing chaos. You know, Morty being Morty. Everything culminates in a bloody massacre followed by a space race (which is only slightly less crazy than the fights to the death in space that occurs afterward).

Phineas and Ferb – Deconstructing Doof

  • Title: Phineas and Ferb – Deconstructing Doof
  • wiki: link

Starting out by introducing that both Candace (Ashley Tisdale) and Doofenshmirtz (Dan Povenmire) are patients of the same psychologist,, “Deconstructing Doof” has some fun with the premise as the doctor comes to see a pattern in both patients’ delusions and uncovers a connection to a truth that he will share with the world. Sadly for Dr. Mosley Shamai (Brendan Hunt), his attempts at proving the truth fair no better than that of Candice as Doofenshmirtz’s latest invention, with the help of Perry, erases all proof just seconds before his big presentation. Highlights of the episode include the patients’ duet of “No One Understands Me,” Phineas (Vincent Martella) and Ferb‘s (David Errigo Jr.) giant disco blimp (which goes unnoticed by hundreds of people), and the good doctor’s nervous breakdown on stage (which oddly comforts Candice).

Countdown – Happy Birthday Final

  • Title: Countdown – Happy Birthday Final
  • IMDb: link

Things start to get silly in “Happy Birthday Final” as Meachum (Jensen Ackles) puts together a ridiculous plan involving a fake prison escape to get more information from a guy who might, might, have connections to attack being planned on U.S. soil. And, surprise, surprise, something goes wrong providing a turning point where two members of the team are shot (for questionable intel) allowing the local Attorney General (Merrick McCartha) to put some added pressure on the team when the tension should be coming from preventing the attack. Also of note, Violett Beane is pretty cute her planning a surprise party for one of her teammates (even if that thread seems to come from an entirely different show).
