The Big Leap – Swan Song

The penultimate episode of The Big Leaps gives us the final two days leading up to the live performance of Swan Lake. For Mike (Jon Rudnitsky) that means struggling on after the death of Paula (Piper Perabo), for Nick (Scott Foley) that means standing up to his boss’ crazy last idea, and for Gabby (Simone Recasner) that means putting some more of creativity to work in helping to choreograph a new ending to the show before returning to her old life. Perabo, who only appears in recorded messages from an iPad after the initial pre-credit scenes, is terrific here as Paula provides Mike with the encouragement needed to finish the show for both of them and reminds us how how lucky the two of them were to find each other (even for so short a time).

NCIS: Hawai’i – Legacy

  • Title: NCIS: Hawai’i – Legacy

“Legacy” offers one night of romance for Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and the departing Joe (Enver Gjokaj) while offering a case of the week involving the death of a protestor on an uncooperative tech billionaire’s (Rob Benedict) land. Stonewalled by the tycoon and his lawyers, the team investigates the protestor and uncovers an unexpected connection between him and both their suspect and his wife (Jenna Leigh Green). The murder of the week is solid with various B-stories offering peeks into core characters such as Kai (Alex Tarrant) siding with the protestors and a revelation of Lucy‘s (Yasmine Al-Bustami) family wealth. I’d expect to see each of these threads to be developed further, and I’m not so certain we’ve seen the final departure of Captain Joe.

The second episode of Hit-Monkey takes our unlikely duo of a murderous monkey and his ghostly sidekick Bryce (Jason Sudeikis) into Tokyo in search of those responsible for the death of the assassin and the monkey’s tribe. “Bright Lights, Big City” reveals how Hit-Monkey acquires his suit and introduces him to Akiko (Olivia Munn), who has convinced her father (George Takei) to run in the election in place of the assassinated candidate, at the man’s funeral (which quickly devolves into a bloody shoot-out between Hit-Monkey and the Yakuza).

“I Thought You’d Be Happier To See Me” and “You’re A Long Way From Home” continue the thread of Legacies exploring the fallout of Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) unlocking her vampire side as Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Josie (Kaylee Bryant) enter the comatose mind of Alaric (Matthew Davis) and discover Hope’s responsibility for her situation, causing the Super Squad to get to planning how to take down their friend. The episodes also offer a pair of returns as Rebekah (Claire Holt) shows up in a failed attempt to get Hope back on the right path and then the tribrid takes a road trip to enlist the unwilling help of Clark (Nick Fink) for information about those in charge of Triad Industries who want her dead.
