Following the two-part premiere, “The SPK” offers the first Blacklister of the week with the team now back in place once more. SPK isn’t a person, but a cult obsessed with stealing and destroying religious artifacts (unaware its leader is a con man actually selling them on the black market for a tidy profit). “Noögenesis” fills in the events of Zachary Solomon’s transformation into Mal’akh (Beau Knapp), without actually explaining much of anything on how he died but survived in prison and was reborn. There’s really nothing to be gained from the episode other than than to prolong the larger mystery another week. Mark Gibbon guest-stars as the cryptic mentor Zachary found in prison who taught him impossible healing techniques based on humming and heavy breathing. Yes, it’s as ridiculous as it sounds.
