Game of Thrones - The Long Night TV review

“The Long Night” provides the extended battle between the Night King‘s (Vladimír Furdík) army and the North as the undead arrive at Winterfell. Aside from the opening few minutes, showcasing the growing tension prior to the battle’s beginning, and few shots of those hiding in the catacombs for safety – including a couple of nice moments between Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and Sansa (Sophie Turner), nearly the entire episode is focused on the battle itself. Some well-known characters fall, but there’s surprisingly little death concerning the core characters. I thought there was even money that Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), Tormund (Kristofer Hivju), or Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) would fall given the contentment each found the previous week (often foreshadowing death on the show). Speaking of which, given his talk last week with Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), Jorah‘s (Iain Glen) death was one of the easiest to predict, and the character goes out in heroic fashion defending his queen to his dying breath.

Supergirl - American Dreamer television review

With Kara (Melissa Benoist) focusing on exposing Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) and clearing Supergirl’s name, it falls on Dreamer (Nicole Maines) to fight the good fight and help out aliens targeted and rounded up by Ben Lockwood‘s (Sam Witwer) fully-deputized Agents of Liberty. Lockwood’s star continues to rise inside the government, but the episode does offer some heavy blows to his ego in defeat at his attempt to capture Dreamer (thanks to some timely help by a couple of friends), in his son seeing through his father’s hate speech, and in the tragedy of his wife (the source of which he unintentionally put in motion).

Today’s Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to 80s Saturday morning cartoons and the world of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. The first episode of the series to air, “The Triumph of the Green Goblin” features longtime Spidey villain the Green Goblin (Dennis Marks) who reappears when Norman Osborne’s plane crashes causing his alter-ego to take hold once more. Despite disappearing for a rather long segment during which Spider-Man hunts down the Goblin and escapes the second of two death traps the villain leaves for him, Iceman (Frank Welker) and Firestar (Kathy Garver) show up at the end to freeze the local reservoir and remove the villain’s formula from mixing with the water and transforming others into goblin creatures like him.

Hawaii Five-0 - O ke kumu, o ka mana, ho'opuka 'ia TV review

An old friend from Adam‘s (Ian Anthony Dale) past shows up at Five-0 needing help on her wedding day. The daughter of a local Yakuza boss (Sonny Saito), Tamiko’s (Brittany Ishibashi) husband-to-be has vanished. Knowing that he was an FBI agent secretly working undercover leads Five-0 to initially suspect Tamiko’s father but evidence soon points Five-0 in a new direction. Investigating the fiance’s previous cases leads to a new suspect with reason enough to seek revenge (although the Yakuza manages to catch up to the killer first to deliver their own justice). The storyline ends ominously as the Yakuza boss makes a prediction about Adam’s inevitable return to his old life. Is this just an empty threat or foreshadowing of things to come?

Charlie's Angels - Lady Killer television review

Today’s Throwback Thursday post takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police detectives turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. Hugh O’Brian guest-stars as a Hugh Hefner-style magazine and club owner who hires Townsend Investigations to look into the murder of two models. While Jill (Farrah Fawcett) goes in undercover as a waitress and model, Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) becomes the lounge’s new singer, and Sabrina (Kate Jackson) steps in as their client’s “old friend.” The episode’s mystery appears to come to a close with ten minutes still remaining as the Angels uncover the sinster machinations of their client’s longtime partner (Alan Fudge). However, after Jill is attacked later that night it becomes apparent that the killer is still at large.
