Spenser for Hire - The Choice

For Throwback Thursday we turn the clock back to take a look at another episode of Spenser: For Hire. In “The Choice” Spenser‘s (Robert Urich) five-minutes of fame make the private detective a target for a pair of young sociopaths (Patricia Clarkson and Sam Robards) looking to up the game which until this point has included killing homeless victims no one has missed. Toying with the detective proves to be just the thing. Even after the pair kill a friend of Hawk‘s (Avery Brooks) in front of Spenser, he finds it difficult to get either the police or the girl’s father to take the situation seriously.

Lucifer - My Little Monkey

“My Little Monkey” undercuts the emotion of both Chloe (Lauren German) reopening her father’s murder case and Linda (Rachael Harris) shutting out Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt while struggling to process the truth of Lucifer (Tom Ellis), with a goofy plot involving Lucifer douching-up to work alongside Dan (Kevin Alejandro). While humorous at times, this turns what could have been another extremely good episode into a more forgettable one.

Supergirl - Crossfire

There’s quite a bit happening in “Crossfire,” the problem is not all if it is interesting. Continuing the Cadmus storyline, the terrorist group arms bank robbers with alien weapons which make them more than a match for Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). Growing bolder with every strike, the group sets their target on Lena Luthor‘s (Katie McGrath) big bash where Supergirl will need help to save the day. The most obvious problem with the storyline is there were plenty of ways for Supergirl to disarm the robbers (super-speed, freeze-breath, over-heating the guns with heat-vision) but instead she ran head first into each attack, not adapting to the situation. In terms of the arc, “Crossfire” does confirm a connection between Lena and Cadmus (but not in the expected way) which I’ll be curious to see developed over the rest of the season.

Elementary - To Catch a Predator Predator

Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) are called in to investigate a murder the detectives believe are tied to the public Internet beatings and shaming of pedophiles. Learning that their victim was the man responsible for creating fake profiles on dating websites and luring pedophiles into admitting their proclivities, the detectives turn their attention on the men who their victim shamed. What they discover is more complicated, however, as one of the men beaten and exposed by their victim was actually innocent. And the true reason for his murder came from an entirely different motive.

Once Upon a Time - Heartless

With “Heartless” Once Upon a Time falls back on an old reliable (albeit with a twist). Threatening to expose Storybrooke to the destructive waters of the River of Lost Souls, Evil Queen‘s (Lana Parrilla) gives Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David (Josh Dallas) just 12 hours to voluntarily turn over the one thing she craves more than in all the world – Snow White’s heart. Offering a feint hope which is dashed by the villain, the episode does allow for a flashback between David and Snow revealing they actually met far earlier than either remembered. As for the Queen’s revenge, it takes the usual course of a sleeping curse but with a Ladyhawke-like twist as in cursing the heart which they both share she may have finally found a way to keep Snow and Charming separated (at least for now).
