- Title: Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: The Monster of Nivola (One-shot)

Set in Sardinia in the 1960s, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: The Monster of Nivola is presented in the aftermath of Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. taking out a local monster whose secret had been kept by the nuns of the region and whose death is mourned by an angry widow. Although we do get a flashback to Hellboy’s confused encounter with the creature, most of the comic takes place after events have already unfolded.
As a one-shot, and not an extended storyline, I think The Monster of Nivola works allowing Hellboy to be on the opposite end of the equation of the idea that a monstrous being isn’t necessarily a monster. Daniele Serra’s painted art adds to the melancholy of the story. Having completed the missioni, Hellboy may have successfully dealt with the Monster of Nivola but he also took a friend and loved one away from the locals as well.
