I’ll admit to being a bit lost at the opening of Mary Jane & Black Cat #1 where apparently Ben Reilly is now a villain again and going by a new name (meaning Marvel has somehow managed to screw up the one thing needed from the character – swinging through New York as the Scarlet Spider – yet again. Goddamn Marvel, it’s not that hard!). Oh, and Mary Jane also has super-powers now?
The issue gives us a team-up between MJ and Black Cat (who is also surprised by MJ’s powers) to survive the demonic attacks on the city, and a trip to Limbo? Um, sure. Far more fun, was the issue’s back-up story in which Felicia tells a tall tale to friends over a poker game about how she once stole Doctor Doom‘s mask. It’s worth a read.
