The Brave and the Bold #67

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to a Batman team-up from the classic anthology The Brave and the Bold. Originally launched to highlight heroes and swashbucklers from the past, eventually the comic morphed into a Batman team-up book. The Brave and the Bold #67 features Batman and the Flash working together to take down a gang of thieves enhanced by sneakers allowing them to move too fast for the Dark Knight Detective to catch them. Unaware that the Flash is suffering from a condition where the use of his super-speed is slowly killing him, Batman enlists the help of Central City’s hero to catch the thieves.

A fun Silver Age comic featuring the art of Carmine Infantino who drew the Scarlet Speedster as good as any artist ever, The Brave and the Bold #67 offers quite a bit including Batman’s detective work to try and figure out how the sneakers work, the Flash refusing to stop leading to his apparent death, and the return of the fastest man alive in the climax to help keep the thieves (who begin calling themselves the Speed Boys about halfway through the issue) as, in classic comic condition, the radiation from the sneakers actually counteracts the bizarre unexplained illness Flash has been suffering leaving him healthy once more.
