Nearly a decade before she was Nikita, Maggie Q was basically Nikita. Siu-Tung Ching‘s 2002 thriller stars Maggie Q, Anya Wu, and Jewel Lee as the three survivors from dozens of young girls abducted over the world, trained to be assassins, and pitted against each other by the elusive Madam M (Almen Wong). The movie offers flashbacks to the the girls’ training and graduation while in the present our protagonists are offered one last job to earn their freedom only to fall into a trap laid by a Yakuza boss (Andrew Lien) out for revenge against the women for one of their previous missions.
Given the most story of the three young assassins, Charlene (Maggie Q) has strong ties to Katt (Anya Wu) and also gets subplots of running into her mother and an attractive FBI agent (Daniel Wu) piecing together the clues of the secret order of assassins. Both provide reasons for pushing Charlene into looking for a way out.
The film is hampered by questionable dialogue and lazy plot along with some inconsistent acting from its young cast while refusing to ever fully embrace the cheesiness inherent it its setup. However, the action scenes and choreography hold up pretty well. Given Maggie Q moving on to Nikita less than a decade later, the film may spark some interest for its fans but Naked Weapon misses the target more times than it slays. The new Blu-ray includes audio commentary from Camille Zaurin, featurettes and interviews with the film’s stars, a photo gallery, and the film’s trailer.

This movie’s got disaster written all over it. The acting is average, the plot is ridiculous, and the dialogue will have you laughing and groaning. But it does have beautiful, and scantily clad, young actresses, some nice sets and attractive scenery, and some pretty good stunts and wire work.

There are bad movies, there are awfully bad movies, and then there are movies so ridiculously bad they force you to bellow with laughter and titter with glee as they instantly earn guilty pleasure status.
