Reason #47 Why I Love DS9 – The Road to Kal’Hyah

There are many reasons why I love Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and why it remains my favorite of the Star Trek franchise.

Reason #47: The Road to Kal’Hyah

As Worf (Michael Dorn) and Jadzia (Terry Farrell) prepare for their wedding the Klingon invites his closest male friends for a four night journey. The idea of a Klingon bachelor party intrgiues both Bashir (Alexander Siddig) and O’Brien (Colm Meaney) but they are soon to learn that party is hardly the right word.

Along with Sisko (Avery Brooks), Worf, and General Martok (J.G. Hertzler), the pair find themselves on a journey which includes six trials: deprivation (including fasting for all four days), blood, pain, sacrifice, anguish, and death. This provides two great moments as O’Brien and Bashir plan on killing their friend as they roast while shackled above a fire and the episode’s final moment as the pair take extra relish in the ceremonial attack of the newly wedded couple (4 seconds into the clip).
