Bryan Mills is a pussy. Director Kenji Tanigaki offers a tale of a mute handyman (Xie Miao) out to find his kidnapped daughter (Yang Enyou). At the same time we’re given a parallel story of a journalist (Joe Taslim) searching for his partner (Jeeja Yanin) who goes missing in the opening scene while investigating the human trafficking ring scooping up children from the poorer regions of the city.
Without either man needing to pick up a gun, the pair create a bloody swath across the city coming together, first as enemies, than as partners, to complete their quest. The Furious delivers a masterclass in blood-soaked action; even John Wick would think twice about getting in their way.
The Furious is the kind of film where everyone knows Kung Fu leading to leading to some terrific fight choreography and an amazing body count before our protagonists square off against the major villains (Brian Le, Yayan Ruhian, and Joey Iwanaga), all equally unstoppable and capable of killing, in a spectacular final act that leaves the local police station painted in blood.
Immediately putting Taken and movies of its ilk to shame, The Furious raises the bar for a missing child revenge tale leaning hard into a level of unapologetic violence, tempered with the fear and love each man has for their missing family, that delivers a hell of a bloody good time.
