“Perhaps in hindsight we should not have made our submarine out of food.”

In a classic wacky episode, Phineas (Vincent Martella) and Ferb (David Errigo Jr.), along with Isabella (Alyson Stoner) and Buford (Bobby Gaylor), build a giant submarine out of food making a “Submarine Sandwich Submarine” to explore the Mariana Trench. Snooping on her brothers rather than getting ready for the sandcastle building competition, Candace (Ashley Tisdale) sneaks onboard it time for an underwater adventure that includes almost getting eaten. Eventually making it out of the water, and crashing on the beach, covering it in sand, Candace’s proof not only disappears at the most opportune moment but she’s even rewarded for the most ingenious sandcastle design on the beach.

A good racing movie can be an awfully fun time at the movies. While not a great film, F1 sticks to the basic formula giving us a gritty old veteran with something to prove, a hotshot rookie who hasn’t broken through, and a racing team outgunned and outmatched that desperately needs a miracle win. F1 may put the formulaic in Formula One, but there’s a reason the formula works as director Joseph Kosinski fits these pieces (and some darn good looking racing sequences – particularly in IMAX) into just the kind of fun summer movie I was hoping for and would make a fun pairing with something like Ford v Ferrari for a racing double-feature which ultimately has something similar to say about racing and the crazy fools who do it for a living.

Throwback Tuesday takes us back 25 years to a film that begins with the destruction of Earth but ends with hope on a new world. The final film of Don Bluth‘s run offering an animation alternative to the far more successful Disney, Titan A.E. stars Matt Damon as a displaced and disaffected human working on alien salvage rigs who is sought out by Korso (Bill Pullman) and his crew who believe Cale‘s genetic heritage is the key to finding a lost spaceship built and hidden by Cale’s father (Ron Perlman) during the destruction of Earth by the alien menace of the Drej.
