After a goofy episode involving an intergalactic song contest which is only notable for revealing Mrs. Flood (Anita Dobson) to be The Rani and then introducing Archie Panjabi as her latest regeneration, The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) awake back on Earth, although not the one they left. Playing into the revolving gods arc, The Rani has use a newborn god to made changes to the world that still leaves doubts and cracks to the real world underneath (which, apparently is the point). The Doctor’s fake life is shaken by a meeting with Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) and an message from Rogue (Jonathan Groff) and begins to doubt the world around him (although it will take a full episode before we see The Doctor back to himself).

Over her objections, Amelia (Blu Hunt) leaves 221B Baker Street and moves into the Anderson residence to begin her new role as Clara’s (Gia Hunter) chaperone where she quickly run into clues during Clara’s etiquette training. She is present for a murder, uncovers ties to The Thread, discovers a twin blade to the one used to kill her mother, and is nearly be abducted all in one episode. As for young Dan (Joe Klocek), Sherlock Holmes (David Thewlis) has some words for him concerning both the boy’s father and his growing closeness to Amelia. Through the use of his new telephone, in ways the company would not approve of, Holmes does some investigating of his own uncovering connections that back up Amelia’s findings pointing to Lady Violet Somerset (Fiona Glascott) having a connection to the insidious organization both wish to see exposed.

A Hard Place

A B-movie horror flick, A Hard Place gives us a group armed robbers (most notably Rachel Amanda Bryant, Kevin Caliber, and Jennifer Michelle Stone II)  who end up in the desolate wilderness after a job stuck in the middle of a war between two neighboring redneck families of monsters. On one side there are the plant-based “Guardians” who roam the woods during the day and on the other are the more vampiric zombies who turn during the full moon. The arrival of the fresh meat also coincides with a solar eclipse which will bring both sets of monsters into battle at full strength.
