Shadowhunters - A Problem of Memory TV review

After discovering Clary (Katherine McNamara) still has feelings for Jace (Dominic Sherwood), Simon (Alberto Rosende) goes on a bender ending with a hangover, hazy memories, and everyone suspecting he is responsible for the death of a young woman drained by a vampire. The uncertainty doesn’t last all that long, and the storyline would have worked a bit better had events been drawn out rather over multiple weeks rather than immediately solved. Despite loosing control, and being a bloodthirsty creature of the night, Simon is no killer… at least not yet. In a related plot, Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) also struggles with recent events and the reawakening of his most painful memory.

Blood Brothers #1

Blood Brothers #1 comic reviewThe first issue of Dynamite Entertainment’s Blood Brothers: Hermanos de Sangre is unexpected. Issue #1 of the four-issue mini-series introduces us to Diego and Gabriel Soliz, a pair of mismatched brothers who nevertheless make effective detectives. Writer Fabian Rangel, Jr. and artist Javier Martin Caba create a fantastical world filled with creatures of all shapes and sizes. While our protagonists are both human, each brings an unique skill-set to their partnership.

Diego, from what we see here, is a degenerate drunk. However, he does have the power to speak to the dead and follow the invisible tracks people leave behind. The much larger Gabriel is clad in full wrestling attire including luchador mask, far more intent on playing the hero (although he seems to lack the more deductive mind of his brother).

Killjoys - A Skinner, Darkly television review

“A Skinner, Darkly” offers two separate stories before bringing Johnny (Aaron Ashmore) home. Before he can get there, however, Johnny will learn the (disappointing) truth about both his missing friend and Clara (Stephanie Leonidas) and the young woman (Tommie-Amber Pirie) wearing her weaponized arm when he uncovers the facts about a re-skinning operation which is using the Hullen ooze to allow others to take on the appearance of the doctor’s (Viktoria Modesta) victims. The audience isn’t the only one disappointed in the outcome, as Johnny (thankfully) heads home calling an end to his solo travels.

Castlevania - Witchbottle television review

Based on the third video game in the series, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, Netflix’s new four-part Castlevania animated series introduces us to Dracula (Graham McTavish) and the events which would wake the retiring vampire out of his seclusion to declare war on humanity. Set prior to the events of the game, the first episode introduces us to both Dracula and the human woman (Emily Swallow), a scientist mistaken for a witch in the Fifteenth Century, whose love would bring Dracula out into the world and whose death at the hands of an angry church-fearing mob would lead to the vampire’s thirst for vengeance.
