Elektra #1 comic reviewElektra has been many things over the years, but most of her best stories usually tie back to Daredevil (in one way or another). The character’s new comic takes Elektra far from the streets of New York and Matt Murdock’s new life, and deposits her on the strip in Las Vegas where the despicable treatment of one of the casino workers raises the assassin’s ire.

Stripping away the character’s classic red costume (seriously, what does Marvel have against the color red all of the sudden?), Elektra #1 clads the character far more simply (something between the Netflix character’s look and Silk). While Elektra sets out only to get revenge for one woman, leaving a trail of broken and dead bodies strewn across the hotel and dance club, her actions also draw the attention of prying eyes who are using the casino for something sinister.

5 Film Collection: GangstersWhat the hell is Gangster Squad doing on this set? The 2013 film wastes a talented cast on this idiotic take on a 50s cop (Josh Brolin) attempting to take down Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). What a piece of shit. The rest of this collection is actually quite good, making you wonder who decided to try and polish this turd by putting in in their company.

Ben Affleck‘s The Town is the second-weakest entry in the set, but the look at Boston bank robbers is at least occasionally compelling. While flawed, 2001’s Training Day is worth a look for the performances of Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke as the older detective introduces his new partner to his world.

Logan movie reviewFinally learning that bigger isn’t always better (see X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: The Last Stand), 20th Century Fox has moved away from the super-sized team film. With both Logan and Legion (FX’s new series based around the X-Men character of the same name), the X-Men universe is taking some interesting turns with a darker tone and smaller character-driven stories. Logan may not be as entertaining as Deadpool, but it definitely ranks as one of the better X-Men films (and easily the best of the Wolverine standalone movies).

Set more than a decade in the future, Logan gives us a Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) we haven’t seen before. Inspired by Old Man Logan, the Logan we see has aged considerably since the events of Days of Future Past and his healing factor has begun to fail him. In a world where mutants are all but extinct, Logan works as a limousine driver making ends meet and keeping himself, Caliban (Stephen Merchant), and Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) out of the limelight. Of course that changes when a young girl (Dafne Keen) with very similar abilities to his own shows up on his doorstep hunted by those who want her dead.

Beyond - Into the Light TV review

Beyond closes out its First Season with Holden (Burkely Duffield) and Willa (Dilan Gwyn) blackmailed into leading Frost (Martin Donovan) into the Realm and to the bridge he has spent his entire life searching for. Not surprisingly, the reality doesn’t quite match up to the man’s dreams, forcing Holden and Willa to flee the Realm and leave Frost trapped inside with the bizarre creatures. It appears the method of their escape, teased earlier on this season, will have ramifications for both Holden and the Realm next season.
