Arrow - Legacy

After last year’s foray into magic and mysticism, Arrow returns to its roots for the Fifth Season opener. With all of his allies either dead or retired, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) is burning the candle at both ends working days as the new mayor of Star City and nights as the Green Arrow. While the recent seasons have created more and more powerful adversaries for Green Arrow to fight, necessitating building a bigger and better team, the season premiere gets back to basics with a street-level villain in Tobias Church (Chad L. Coleman) who kidnaps the mayor in hopes of bringing the Emerald Archer to his rescue. If he only knew.

Death of Hawkman #1

Death of Hawkman #1For the first issue of a new mini-series entitled Death of Hawkman there’s not much Hawkman. Aside from the first few panels featuring Hawkman and Adam Strange post-battle nearly the entire comic shifts to Earth days prior and Adam Strange being trapped and unable to reach Rann when it comes under attack from Thanagar.

Although there’s far less Hawkman than advertised (and I’m not even sure which version of the hero we’re getting her following DC’s Rebirth reboot), Death of Hawkman #1 is actually quite a bit of fun. While I’ve never been that big a fan of Adam Strange, writer Marc Andreyko presents a story of the scientist turned hero that is a pleasant surprise.

Timeless - Pilot

NBC’s new time-traveling sci-fi series stars Abigail Spencer as a world-renown historian, Matt Lanter as a U.S. soldier, and Malcolm Barrett as a computer tech who are thrown together on a makeshift team to track down a villain (Goran Visnjic) who has stolen a time machine and headed into the past to change history. Armed with only their wits, Lucy’s (Spencer) knowledge of history, and their own ship which is linked to the stolen time-sphere, the three begin their journey in 1937 where Flynn (Visnjic) targets the destruction of the Hindenburg for his own purposes.

5 Film Collection Action PackThis five-disc collection of action films contains three enjoyable action flicks and a pair of clunkers for a fairly reasonable price. The Last Boy Scout (an enjoyable collaboration between writer Shane Black and director Tony Scott) teams seedy private eye (Bruce Willis) and former football star (Damon Wayans) in a murder investigation. Under Siege is one of Steven Seagal‘s better films casting him as a former Navy SEAL demoted to a cook in the right place at the right time when terrorists (led by Tommy Lee Jones) attack his ship. Tango & Cash is the ridiculous, but fun, pairing of Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell as rival super cops forced to work together after they are framed for murder.
