“Look, I don’t have $500. I make $5.15 plus commissions, I gotta pay rent tonight, and my parents won’t let me in the house. It’s like those drug commercials, only not funny.”

Atlanta - The Big Bang

The first episode of Atlanta introduces us to Earnest Marks (Donald Glover), his ex-girlfriend (Zazie Beetz) and daughter, and his cousin Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry). Stuck in a series of dead-end jobs and schemes which have failed to pay-off, Earn gets the idea to attach himself to Alfred’s aspiring music career as the rapper’s new manager. The Flash – The Complete Second Season

The Flash - The Complete Second SeasonThe Second Season of The Flash feels like a bit of a retread putting the Scarlet Speedster up against although super-fast baddie. Zoom isn’t as strong a villain as the Reverse-Flash which leads to a disappointing season finale, but along the way the season does have several bright spots including exploring the concept of a Multiverse, Barry‘s (Grant Gustin) relationship with Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten), and bringing back Tom Cavanagh as the all-different Harrison Wells.

Highlights include the Flash’s time jump to trick his old enemy into helping him, the return of the Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher), the team-up of the Weather Wizard (Liam McIntyre), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and the original Trickster (Mark Hamill), Central City terrorized by King Shark, Barry struggling with the loss of his speed, the Flash temporarily trapped inside the Speed Force, the return of Grodd, the introduction of Zoom, and the episodes leading up to the spin-off Legends of Tomorrow.

The Wicked + The Divine #22

The Wicked + The Divine #22My interest in writer Kieron Gillen and artist Jamie McKelvie’s The Wicked + The Divine died along with the murder of lead character Laura Wilson (the fan girl through whose eyes we met Lucifer and the rest of the pantheon) way back in issue #11. Learning that Laura had been brought back as the destroyer Persephone, however, renewed my interest in the comic and gave me a reason to check out what I’ve missed.

The Wicked + The Divine #22 is the conclusion of the “Rising Action” story arc (and really the arc which began in the series first issue). Mortals turned Gods square off as Anake buys time to kill Minerva and complete her sacrifice of four (alluded to but not explained) which she claims is necessary to stop the oncoming darkness.
