Although we won’t know the answer until the Fall, the question that I thought about over the course of the two-part season finale was whether or not Matlock has already jumped the shark. Having Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) discover Matty‘s (Kathy Bates) secret in the previous episode, the two form a temporary mistrustful partnership with Olympia willing to work together but determined to prove Julian‘s (Jason Ritter) innocence. The episode will close with a false ending seeing Olympia proved right and then the first of multiple cliffhangers where the show reveals Julian’s complicity, just as Matty predicted. This leaves Olympia in a no-win situation (but, I’m guessing from the mention of all of the skills Olympia has learned from Matty’s lies, she’ll attempt to hide the truth from Matty while pretending to help search for the “real culprit”).

Stone Sunday takes us north to the sleepy town of Paradise, Massachusetts and the third of Robert B. Parker‘s novels featuring Police Chief Jesse Stone. Death in Paradise gives us Jesse looking into the murder of a promiscuous high school student no one seems to miss. Even the girl’s parents deny any ties to young Billie whose body washes up on shore. It seems Jesse is the only one in all of Paradise who cares what happened to her.

Scream Sunday takes us back to the world of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) in the worst movie (at least so far) of the 30 year-old franchise. The characters feel far too long-in-the tooth at this point as the film goes extra-hard with Stab parody sequel cameos (featuring the likes of Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell, Shenae Grimes, and Lucy Hale) and new Ghostface killings (this time with the killer filming their own murders) while limping to an unsatisfying twist ending that ties in social media feeding narcissism and fame-seeking without delivering a satisfying conclusion.
