Titans: Rebirth #1

Titans: Rebirth #1Wally West‘s return to the DCU continues in Titans: Rebirth #1. After being pulled back into existence by Barry Allen in DC Universe: Rebirth #1, Wally gets a spiffy new costume and sets out to find his old teammates: the original Teen Titans. Of course this is problematic as none of his old friends knows who Wally is.

At first mistaking him for a threat, the group attempts to put the speedster down. But as each member comes into contact with their former ally a spark of recognition (hey, I’m not above using a pun when appropriate) brings back memories of their forgotten friend.

Conan: The Complete Quest

Conan: The Complete QuestThe new Blu-ray release collects both original Conan movies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the legendary Cimmerian thief and warrior. Focused on Conan’s origin story and his quest for revenge against the evil sorcerer (James Earl Jones) who slaughtered his village as a boy and threw him into slavery, Conan the Barbarian is the better of the two movies. It also gives us Mako (who would return in the sequel) as Conan’s ally.

Following two-years later, Conan the Destroyer feels every bit the half-baked sequel it is as Conan is hired to protect a princess (Olivia d’Abo) with a terrible destiny. While not as strong as the original, Destroyer does offer some memorable moments.

Detective Comics #934

Picking up its original numbering, Detective Comics returns as more of a Bat-Family book than a Batman solo title. Concerned that a new villain has been keeping tabs on Gotham’s vigilantes (Red Robin, Stephanie Brown, and Cassandra Cain), Batman enlists the help of Batwoman to get the younger generation trained for the battle yet to come. A Bat Book Camp, if you will. And, to throw a curve ball in the mix, Batman enlists Clayface to be part of the team.

Sure, there are small things I could nitpick about the choices here. I’d rather see Tim Drake in his pre-New 52 costume than a tweaked version of his first Robin costume. Stephanie Brown should be Batgirl not Spoiler. And Cassandra Cain would feel far more at home in the Bat-Family as Black Bat rather that “Orphan” (what a terrible name for a hero).

Person of Interest - .exe

The penultimate episode of Person of Interest takes Finch (Michael Emerson) into the heart of the enemy and to the precipice of a decision of how far he’s willing to go to destroy Samaritan. Armed with one of the world’s most dangerous computer viruses and the need to protect his friends before they face the same fate of Root (Amy Acker), the only decision Harold has to make is would he be willing to harm his own artificial intelligence to stop Samaritan? To help its creator make his decision, The Machine offers a series of simulations of what his life, and the lives of his friends, would have been like if he had never created an artificial intelligence.
