In honor of Batman‘s 75th Anniversary we continue to look back at the more memorable moments on the big and small screen. The third two-part episode arc of 1966 Batman TV-series starring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin introduced Cesar Romero as the Joker. After escaping incarceration during a prison softball game the Joker returns to seek revenge learning his name hasn’t been included in the first inductees for the Gotham City Museum of Modern Art’s Comedians Hall of Fame.

The Top Ten Movies of 2014 (so far)

We’ve hit the halfway point of the year and, as has become the custom, that means it’s time to look back on the best movies of the year so far. This year’s list includes three animated films, two sequels, the return of a beloved television character, a latest (and in one case the last) from few big name directors, and a pair of small indie films topping the list of what has been a pretty damn good first-half of the year at the movies.

Perception - Shiver

While attempting to avoid a visit from his estranged father (Peter Coyote), Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack) attempts to help the FBI locate a bank robber by interviewing their best witness to the crime – a trusting young boy (Cole Sand) suffering from Williams syndrome who was temporarily kidnapped by the robber to make good his escape. Based on the kid’s description of the masked man and his sick partner (Brian Letscher) who is dying of a rare and incurable degenerative disease (or so he believes), Moretti is able to track down and arrest one of their suspects in a case more complicated, and tragic, than it initially appears.

Larfleeze #12The adventures of Larfleeze come to a close as the Orange Lantern defeats the House of Tuath-Dan, saves the planet of robots (who are mostly dead at this point) which he sees as his property, and makes a surprising discovery about his connection to G’Nort.

Much like Captain Atom, albeit in an entirely different way, Larfleeze suffers the fate of not fitting into the gritty simplicity of much of the rest of the current New 52 landscape. And so, sadly, the wacky tales of space-fairing dogs with power rings comes to a close. In doing so however it does tease a new partnership between Larfleeze and G’Nort which I’d like to see DC pursue sometime down the line (maybe even throw in Dex-Starr for good measure?).

DC needs more, not less, comics with the irreverent charm of Larfleeze but apparently that’s not in the cards. So I’ll just thank Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Scot Kolins for getting me to not only buy but enjoy a comic about a character I cared very little about before this series and am now sorry to say goodbye to. Worth a look.

Pretty Little Liars - Thrown From the Ride

With Aria (Lucy Hale) obsessed about Shana (Aeriel Miranda), Emily (Shay Mitchell) helping train Sydney (Chloe Bridges) while avoiding Alison (Sasha Pieterse), and Spencer‘s (Troian Bellisario) focus on the discovery of Mrs. DiLaurentis‘ body and the secrets she correctly believes her family is keeping from her, it falls on Hanna (Ashley Benson) to accompany Alison to a medical check-up where several more questions about her missing time come up including the cause of knife wound the young woman refuses to discuss. The stress doesn’t do much for Hanna either as she returns to her old shoplifting habits after following Alison’s instructions to give more lies to her friends to memorize.
