JSA #4

Captured by the Injustice Society, Dr. Mid-Nite is able to escape her cell and snoop around a bit learning a few facts about the super-villains plans involving the Tower of Fate, Hawkman, and the Spear of Destiny. Goosebumps – Monster Blood

  • Title: Goosebumps: The Vanishing – Monster Blood
  • wiki: link

“Monster Blood” offers a Blob episode with Cece (Jayden Bartels), and later Devin (Sam McCarthy) and Frankie (Galilea La Salvia), chased around the city and subway by something grown from drippings of the killer car and her kombucha. It’s basic horror, with all kinds of questions such as why the subway is completely abandoned aside from the three kids, but there’s fun to be had. The episode also fills in Cece’s backstory revealing the rather large lie she’s been keeping from everyone. Elsewhere, Anthony (David Schwimmer) continues to struggle to find the missing specimen finding no help from Trey (Stony Blyden) who isn’t sure what happened to him. The two stories converge in the final few minutes as Anthony’s kids find their father in the ruins of Fort Jerome raising new questions for all about what is going on and who is responsible.

Avengers #23

While not as fun as stealing her own suit of armor underneath Tony Stark‘s nose, the Black Cat being hired by Kang to steal some important doohickey from the Grandmaster kept in some sort of galactic casino (while outmaneuvering the Avengers) has its moments (most notably in Kang recruiting the thief and in the late reveal of Felicia’s cost for helping the villain).

Together, Green and Lana discover the crashed boat which Jonathan had apparently been using to flee the area providing a potential end to the case (although the show is far from over).

The Shining

  • Title: The Shining

While I don’t think the film completely succeeds in explaining all the story elements from Stephen King’s novel, Stanley Kubrick‘s version of The Shining is something to behold. A master visual storyteller, Kubrick brings the empty hotel to life in vivid hues as Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) takes a job as the caretaker for the Overlook Hotel during the winter months along with his wife (Shelley Duvall) and son (Danny Lloyd).
