“Straight from the Heart” gets into fringe science as Alec (Jesse L. Martin) is approached by an old friend with dreams of a murder that happened to victim who died and provided the heart she is now using. The show doesn’t go as far to confirm events witnessed by the previous heart’s owner got transferred to the new one, although it certainly doesn’t shy away from the possibility with minimal effort spent to an alternate explanation for events. While once again the experiments don’t really tie-into the main case, a disturbing trend and growing concern, the show does open with Alec teaching his students a lesson. The episode is also notable for Marisa (Maahra Hill) meeting the child (Fritzy-Klevans Destine) she gave up for adoption several years ago.

The cases of the week involve Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) defending a senior living facility after one of the residents dies and the return of Autry Tucker (Hal Williams) who is being forced out of his apartment and comes to Madeline (Kathy Bates) for help. While not arguing either case herself, Maddy does plenty of snooping in the nursing home unexpectedly bonding with Sarah (Leah Lewis) in the process and is given the choice of which of the assistants can argue Autry’s case in court.

SHAZAM! #20

Separate from the ongoing drama of Billy Batson and his family, SHAZAM! #20 offers a single-issue story from writer Sina Grace guest-starring Jon Kent who is accidentally de-aged back into a kid during the Captain’s fight with a djinn. I’m a big fan of single-issue stories, which at this point in time have become a lost art in comics. SHAZAM! #20 delivers a fun pairing allowing Jonathan to rediscover a bit of his youth spending time with other kids, and even visiting a certain Boy Wonder (which triggers Billy’s fandom).
