Teen Titans Go! - Be Mine

St. Valentine’s Day doesn’t go as planned for any member of Titans Tower. As Starfire‘s (Hynden Walch) literal misinterpretations of the holiday’s traditions leads to trouble for Robin (Scott Menville), Cyborg (Khary Payton) is unable to spend any time alone with Jinx, and after Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) learns that Terra (Ashley Johnson) has been trapped in a garbage dimension he goes about freeing his one true love who sadly only cares about exacting revenge on Raven (Tara Strong) and all of the Titans.

G.I. JOE #13

G.I. JOE #13As with the last issue, G.I. JOE #13 continues the forced pairing of the Baroness with Cobra’s newest asset Siren who has a talent for spinning a tale to fit a particular time and situation allowing Cobra to boast about the ancient organization’s shrouded history with everyone from Somali Pirates to the Yakuza.

As with G.I. JOE #12, Along with Alex Cal doing the art for Siren and the Baroness’ movements in the present the various tales the Siren spins are each presented by a different artist which continues to give the comic the feel of an anthology not dissimilar to Dynamite Entertainment’s current Legends of Red Sonja comic, and the last of which teaches the Baroness a valuable lesson about being careful what you ask for.

How much truth each of the Siren’s stories actually contains is kept purposefully vague, but its obvious the woman has a gift that Cobra has no intention of giving up anytime soon as she learns a valuable lesson as well when Cobra finds the perfect pressure point to force Siren to continue her work. Worth a look.

Holy Batman: The Animated Series Toys, Batman!

btas-toys-news-catwoman-batman

This news makes me insanely happy. Among DC’s new action figures are the Batman: The Animated Series version of Catwoman (still my favorite version of the the character’s costume). Although I have the 3.5in. figure from the original series, its less-than-ideal mold limits how you can pose the figure without it toppling over. Also announced are figures from the revamped New Batman Adventures (the final season of BTAS that featured different designs for several of the characters) including Batman, Mr. Freeze, and Two-Face. You can find the full press release, including news on all the various other toys and figures DC the company plans to release this year, inside.

2004 – Million Dollar Baby

  • Title: Million Dollar Baby
  • IMDB: link

Million Dollar BabyNo matter how many times I’ve seen the film, there’s a moment in Million Dollar Baby that hits me like a jab straight to the gut, far harder than any thrown inside the ring in this film about boxing, life, death, and balancing the consequences of all three. Even ten years later with the movie now available in a new Tenth Anniversary Blu-ray release I find myself reluctant to give away the twist for those who have not yet seen the film.

The movie is never about what you think it’s about. While borrowing aspects of your run-of-the-mill sports film, the script by Paul Haggis travels a winding road of subtle and abrupt turns, much like life. Earning near universal praise, Million Dollar Baby took home Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director for Clint Eastwood, Best Actress for Hillary Swank, and Best Supporting Actor for Morgan Freeman. The film has aged well and, along with Sideways, The Incredibles, and Before Sunset, it remains one of my favorite films of 2004.
