Almost Human - Perception

While self-medicating to jog his memory resulting in increasingly vivid flashbacks of Anna (Mekia Cox), Kennex (Karl Urban) works with Dorian (Michael Ealy) to investigate the apparent unrelated deaths of two genetically-enhanced teens. As Dorian connects the two deaths to a third victim who drowned 7 months before with similar drug traces in her blood (and whose records linking her to the other victims have mysteriously disappeared), Captain Maldonado (Lili Taylor) asks Detective Stahl (Minka Kelly) to use her own personal experience as a “Chrome” to help with the case.

The Shadow #22

The Shadow #22The Shadow‘s whirlwind world tour makes a stop in the jungles of Guatamala where the vigilante’s search for answers concerning the ring will have to be put on hold as The Shadow teaches some cooperate workers that deforesting the land of the Xinca tribe and kidnapping their chief will not be tolerated.

Most of the first-half of the issue is relatively uneventful as the youthful enthusiasm of two of the younger members of the tribe get their elder taken captive. Luckily for them, the legendary protector shows up to dispense a little justice.

By the end of the issue The Shadow is prepared to return to New York which brings up an interesting point. Although it has showed off the character in various locales, while providing bread crumbs to the mysterious vigilante’s past, the trip is actually a complete failure as The Shadow learns nothing of interest in any of these stops. The final stop on his journey is the least interesting of the bunch, so its probably a good time to get him back to New York City. For fans.

Europa ReportPieced together from found footage of the crew of the Europa One who lost contact with Earth halfway through their 22-month mission to Jupiter’s moon, the pseudo-documentary from director Sebastián Cordero includes a look at the problems which led to the missions success and failures at the fates of the various members of the crew (Daniel Wu, Christian Camargo, Karolina Wydra, Anamaria Marinca, Michael Nyqvist, and Sharlto Copley).

Not told in chronological order, and inter-spliced with interviews from those at NASA (Embeth Davidtz, Dan Fogler) both before and and after Europa One’s disappearance, the storytelling takes a while to get used to. Also troubling is Cordero’s over-reliance on glitches, light flashes, static, and the like which are meant to frame the “real story” as documented by the crew.

What the story does have going for it are the various mysteries which slowly unfold involving what happened to the crew and what they found on Jupiter’s moon.
