One of several unusual one-shot pairings, Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon brings Rocket to Latveria to help Doom with a project involving travelling backwards in time to before the Big Bang. It’s a bit of a screwy concept, but it does play on the idea of Doom respecting Rocket’s technological know-how and needing his help to make his latest invention work. I will say, it’s been a bit since I’ve been interested in anything Doom related (see his run as Iron Man) and this does offer some intrigue. The most obvious solution to the set up, which is really just an excuse to have fun putting these two characters together, would be the failure of the experiment. However, that’s not how the comic ends.

Love, and magic, is in the air in “Now You Don’t” when Alec (Jesse L. Martin) taking Rose (Karen David) on a date to a magic club ends in murder. The Irrational’s use of psychology is more about explaining magic tricks than solving the case involving a magician friend (Carmel Amit) of Alec’s whose volunteer dies on stage. While I like the magic bits of the episode, including the fun moments from Simon (Max Lloyd-Jones) and Phoebe (Molly Kunz), the writing of the episode (relying mostly on the cops being too dumb to think things through and Alec stumbling into a solution rather than finding it through his talents) leaves something to be desired.

While Wonder Woman spends more time with her newborn on Themyscira talking about the baby’s father to her daughter, movements against the Sovereign continue in her absence. After dragging the secret organization into the light with the help of Detective Chimp and Clark Kent, this time it’s Wonder Girls who stop by for a visit taking out the Sovereign’s protection by taking down several of the super-villains hired in their fight against Wonder Woman.

“Find a New Pond” continues to push the show back to a status quo. While working at her security job, Angie (Erika Christensen) uncovers dark secrets at Waldorf Estates which put her in danger but also appear to have provided the extra push necessary to be reinstated to the force. While the episode makes note of Amanda’s (Sonja Sohn) new situation with Sunny (Kyrie Mcalpin), we don’t see developments on-screen relating to the duo (which suits me just fine as I’m not looking forward to the day this subplot begins taking serious chunks of time from the main characters).

I had never seen a Pantasy set until an ad caught my eye. Started in 2020, the company offers multiple building block sets many of which come from licensing deals with properties such as Astro Boy, Garfield, Snoopy, and Kung Fu Panda. Reasonably priced, and still discounted, I grabbed a couple of these sets starting with the Pantasy Po set which is available for $29.99.
