The Mentalist - My Blue Heaven

Two years after the events of last week’s episode where Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) caught-up with and killed Red John (Xander Berkeley), “My Blue Heaven” picks up with Jane on a small island with no extradition treaty living a simple life which is interrupted by the separate arrivals of both a beautiful woman and FBI Agent Abbot (Rockmond Dunbar) who each, in their own way, tempt the Mentalist to end his island isolation and return to the real world. We also glimpse in on the lives of various former members of the CBI who have moved on to other interests after Jane’s departure. Although the show will be continuing after this episode, it appears to be the last stop for Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) and Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) with both actors leaving the show.

Once Upon a Time - Save Henry

With Henry (Jared Gilmore) slowly dying and an even more powerful Peter Pan (Robbie Kay) in control of the young boy’s heart, Regina (Lana Parrilla) is able to buy the group a little time while Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) convinces the Lost Boys to help with a desperate plea to save the life of her son and promise to see each of them home as well along with Wendy Darling (Freya Tingley) and Tinker Bell (Rose McIver). In the end it’s Regina, and her drive to do whatever needs to be done without regretting the consequences, who rips Henry’s heart from Pan’s chest and returns it back to her son’s chest where it belongs.

Powerpuff Girls #3

Powerpuff Girls #3Townsville is certainly a strange place these days. Mojo Jojo has given up mental enhancements and gone back to the simple life of Professor Utonium‘s impossible to control lab monkey and now all of the city’s villains have given up their wicked ways and are working to protect and improve the city.

Although Bubbles and Blossom are willing to give their former adversaries a second-chance, Buttercup finds the entire situation impossible to accept. And behind in all lurks HIM who has caused the change in the minds of Townsville’s villains for his own nefarious purposes.

Writer/artist Troy Little delivers another fun issue with the bizarre situation of turning the town’s baddies into well-respected members of the community (even building a statue of the Powerpuff Girls) and a big action sequence as our heroines work with the former villains to stop an attack by a giant octopus (also under HIM’s influence) forcing even Buttercup to accept their new outlook on life. Worth a look.

The Flash #25

The Flash #25The Flash #25, a one-shot Zero Year adventure giving us Barry Allen‘s first meeting with Iris West in Gotham City, marks the end of Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato’s run on what for me has been one of the rare highlights of the New 52. In his final issue Manapaul shares the art duties with Chris Sprouse for a Flash adventure that happens well before Barry’s accident or his first run in scarlet-colored spandex.

Although it takes place in Gotham rather than Central City, the comic is a nice wrap-up in terms of finally offering us not only Barry and Iris’ first meeting but the couple’s first kiss as well. The storyline of a highly inflammatory street drug name Icarus, and the corruption of the Gotham Police Department, takes a back seat to Barry’s heroic actions well-before receiving the gift of super-speed and his first encounter with Iris.

I’m going to miss Manapual’s beautiful kinetic style that fit the character perfectly. And given the continuing disappointment of much of the rest of the New 52 I’m a little scared to see where The Flash goes from here. Worth a look.

Reunited with Michael (Shane West), Birkhoff (Aaron Stanford), and Ryan (Noah Bean), Nikita‘s (Maggie Q) game with Amanda (Melinda Clarke) and The Shop continues to play out as Ryan shares his hypothesis that Assistant Director the FBI Matthew Graham (Alex Carter) has been swapped out with a double under Amanda’s control just as The Shop did with President Spencer (Michelle Nolden).
