Transformers #16

In a chaotic issue focused on the Autobots finding themselves in the middle of a battle between two warring groups of Decepticons (without an appearance by Shockwave, sadly), the most interesting moment is saved for the end confirming Megatron‘s survival and foreshadowing his return. This isn’t likely great news for the Autobots who have only kept pace with the Decepticons thanks to their questionable leadership so far. The return of Megatron, who probably isn’t going to be happy to learn Optimus Prime is walking around with his cannon arm, could definitely shake things up.

Arcane – The Message Hidden Within the Pattern

Is Jayce (Kevin Alejandro) now officially the worst guy ever? There’s a moment near the end of “The Message Hidden Within the Pattern” where Jinx (Ella Purnell) and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) have come together, Vander has been cured by Viktor, the plans of Ambessa (Ellen Thomas) have been stymied, even Caitlyn (Katie Leung) has seen the error of her ways, and all is right with the world. I feel as if I skipped several episodes of this series which would help explain Jayce’s now murderous obsession with destroying Hextech which I don’t believe has been adequately explained on-screen. That said, enter Jayce to destroy everything ending perhaps the show’s best episode on one hell of a sad note.

Night and Day

Throwback Tuesday takes us north to the sleepy town of Paradise, Massachusetts and its sheriff, Jesse Stone. The second-to-last of the Jesse Stone series to be written by Robert B. Parker, Night and Day makes use of a device Parker employed before in both Crimson Joy and Thin Air in which we see small snippets interspaced throughout the novel from another character’s perspective. In the case of Night and Day that character is the sexually-frustrated Seth Ralston whose voyeuristic peeping gets increasingly more aggressive with the armed invasion of women’s’ homes, romanticizing the encounters by calling himself the Night Hawk and sending letters to Stone and the Paradise Police Department.
