Atomic Robo: The Flying She-Devils of the Pacific #1

atomic-robo-she-devils-of-the-pacific-1-coverIn 1951 Atomic Robo finds himself shot down while flying a new prototype jet over the South Pacific. Just as unexpectedly comes help from a group of female pilots all wearing jet packs.

After being forced to crash land and being rescued by the She-Devils of the Pacific out intrepid robotic scientific adventurer discovers there’s much more going on in the South Pacific than he knew about. Years after the end of WWII, mercenaries have set about claiming weapon and supply depots left unguarded by both Japan and the Allies.

Using whatever they can find, including the cobbled together jet packs, a giant air ship and a secret island base in the Pacific, the She-Devils (women who refused to return home to household chores after the war ended) protect the territory from pirates and mercenaries.

A fun first issue to start the new series with an unexpected (but humorous) chauvinistic slant from Atomic Robo. Worth a look.

Franklin & Bash – L’affaire Du Coeur

  • Title: Franklin & Bash – L’affaire Du Coeur
  • tv.com: link

franklin-and-bash-laffaire

In the space of a handful of minutes Franklin (Breckin Meyer) and Bash (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) go from arguing a case in front of Judge Kohler (Don McManus) to defending him when the judge is served and removed from the bench under charges of sleeping with a female Assistant District Attorney (Bellamy Young) over whose cases he was presiding. The biggest obstacle to their defense is the fact that the affair is real, although the judge swears he has recused himself from any cases she was involved in once the pair secretly began dating.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #11

tmnt-11-coverThe latest issue is jam-packed with action as Splinter takes on the entire Foot Clan and the Teenange Mutant Ninja Turtles do battle with a local gang who is sick of seeing freaks and ninjas invade their turf. Although we’ll have to wait yet another issue for the promised Splinter/Shredder throwdown there’s plenty of action.

The story introduces Casey‘s old friend Angel, part of the Purple Dragons whose turf the Turtles new home sits in the middle of. At first the Dragons and Turtles don’t quite see eye-to-eye, but learning they have a common enemy in The Foot Clan the two groups agree to set aside their differences… for the time being.

It’s Splinter who takes center stage in terms of this issue’s aciton as he not only takes takes down every single Foot ninja The Shredder can throw at him, and the Foot’s mutant soldier Alopex, be he still has enough moxie left over to challenge the man who destroyed everything he loved. Worth a look.

The Flash #10

the-flash-new-52-10-coverFollowing the format of the last couple of issues, Flash #10 continues with the introduction of another New 52 version of the hero’s Rogues Gallery, the Weather Wizard, as the Flash attempts to track down Patty Spivot to tell her Barry Allen is the Flash.

The open pages are a little odd, and I certainly felt like I missed an issue through most of the first-half of the comic. Thankfully the story is filled later, but it is a little awkwardly done (almost as an afterthought).

The Weather Wizard has always been one of the Flash’s more lackluster villains, so the new version doesn’t have much to live up to. The introduction to the character works all right, but he’s still the least interesting of the New 52 Rogues so far.

Given his need to keep running, which keeps getting in the way of Barry’s life, and his desire to no longer hurt Patty anymore, the Flash decides Barry Allen needs to stay dead. I’m not sure I like this turn, or leaving Iris still stuck in limbo, but I’ll stick around to see how it plays out. Up next, Heat Wave. Worth a look.
