Hoppers is an odd film. For those who enjoy when Disney or Pixar go a bit further off the more established path (while they are also preparing yet another Toy Story sequel and a live-action Moana), that still hits on established themes of family and nature, there’s certainly something here worth considering.

Sirât offers the tragedy of a father (Sergi López), accompanied by his son (Bruno Núñez Arjona), on an ill-fated search for his missing daughter. Their journey starts at a rave in the middle of the southern Moroccan desert where they decide to follow a group of ravers (Stefania Gadda, Richard ‘Bigui’ Bellamy, Jade Oukid, Tonin Janvier, and Joshua Liam Herderson) off the beaten path to another rave where they hope to finding the missing piece of their family.

Focused on stories nearly three decades apart, both Rosy McEwen and Nicole Kidman play Virginia Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta based on the character introduced in Patricia Cornwell’s novels. While Kidman plays the character returning to the job after being forced out years before, McEwen plays the younger version of the character tackling her first big case (which made her career but also appears to be linked to a new murder that calls the old investigation into question).
