Smallville - Kinetic

Superman Saturday takes us back to Smallville, Kansas, and the time Clark Kent (Tom Welling) fought criminals who could walk through walls. In terms of all parts of the episode being tied together and progressing both the individual episode and season-long arcs, “Kinetic” is one of the best designed episodes of the show’s First Season. We start with Kryptonite-tattooed goons (David Lovgren, Kavan Smith, and David Coles) stealing from Lex and injuring Chloe (Allison Mack) in the opening scene. With a damaging disc being included in the theft, Lex isn’t in any hurry to report details of what was taken to the police.

Adventures of Superman - The Monkey Mystery

Superman Saturday takes us back to the 1950s and a strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. “The Monkey Mystery” is an odd episode about the daughter of an Eastern European scientist (Allene Roberts) making her way to the United States to deliver her father’s secret formula to stop atomic power to the President of the United States. Pivotal to the plot is an organ grinder’s monkey, dressed in a small Superman costume, who is used to deliver messages between the baddies in Metropolis but who accidentally puts a pivotal piece of information into the hands of Lois Lane (Phyllis Coates) who then spends most of the episode unconscious and off-screen after being attacked.

Batman: Caped Crusader - Moving Target

An attempt on Jim Gordon‘s (Eric Morgan Stuart) life sends Batman (Hamish Linklater) to prison in an attempt to get the hit called off and with a warning for Barbara (Krystal Joy Brown) and to visit the prison in an attempt to get Muller (Peter Jessop) to call of the hit leading to an unexpected discovery: Jim isn’t the target. While the action is good, and the twist works well enough with Barbara revealed to be the target even one of the police detectives is willing to kill for, “Moving Target” is the most forgettable episode of the season. The point of the episode, so to speak, is to provide Barbara a new perspective as to what someone deserves.
