Following a murder in the hospital, evidence leads both Yoon E-na (Kim Da-mi) and Han-saem (Son Suk-ku) separately to Hwang In-chan (Roh Jae-won) who is responsible for the artwork on the puzzle pieces but is not their killer. However, his connection to the artwork leads to the confirmation of the killer’s identity as more and more information is uncovered explaining the motivations for the murders and how everything traces back to the Seojin Diner, where Yang Jung-Ho (Kim Sung-Kyun) worked before becoming a police officer, located in the Shindonga Market which was destroyed in the name of progress to make way for the One City.

Washington stars as brilliant, but suicidal, quadriplegic homicide detective Lincoln Rhyme who sees wasted potential in Officer Amelia Donaghy (Jolie) who takes the kind of initiative he, but not her superiors, appreciate in preserving a crime scene. Not initially pleased with her reassignment, Amelia works as Rhyme’s legs in the field helping to track down a serial killer leaving obscure clues and removing bones from his victims.
