Family Guy - Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Cheater

The Family Guy Halloween episode “Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Cheater” fits the show’s formula with Peter (Seth MacFarlane) doing something stupid (here breaking his neighbor’s pumpkin while attempting to steal it) without a reason or a plan, and a B-story of Stewie (MacFarlane) doing something crazy (here bringing his teddy bear to life to replace Brian after the pair have their latest tiff). Both stories have a Fall theme, although its ready just Halloween-ish trappings for the characters to get into their usual shenanigans.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft - A Single Step

A mopey Lara Croft (Hayley Atwell) isn’t exciting and we get far too much of that version of the character in the opening episode of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. We start we an adventure in the jungle and the recovery of an artifact with Roth (Nolan North). However we quickly jump years ahead to a self-destructive Lara ostracized from her friends for vaguely described events which she also blames herself for Roth’s death. Returning home for some spring cleaning, Lara decides to hold an auction giving away much of the Croft trinkets and treasures only for a thief to steal one, that box she and Roth acquired in the opening scenes, from the mansion.

Blade

Spooky Saturday takes us back t0 a movie that even if it contained a commentary track by Carson Daly filmed inside the TRL studio could still not be more 1998. Wesley Snipes stars as the Marvel Comics character who helps out a doctor bitten by a vampire and protects the world from skeezy vampire withe delusions of grandeur (Stephen Dorff) from taking it over. The film is notable for aspects of its style which look to have heavily influenced the first Matrix movie and for making Blade the character look good on film.

The Fog

Flashback Friday takes us back to the 2005 remake of John Carpenter’s film of vengeful spirits returning to enact revenge 100 years after their death on the town that wronged them. While the effects of the remake are noticeably better than the original, and effort has been made to tie the characters closer together, the 2005 version of The Fog is lacks the vibe, style, and unsettling nature of the original.
