  • Title: Hackers
  • IMDb: link

Newly released on 4K, 1995’s Hackers is a very silly movie about a group of “innocent” high school hackers who despite breaking multiple laws throughout the film are the victims and heroes of the plot when another hacker (Fisher Stevens) decides to frame them for his crimes. The film stars Jonny Lee Miller as a child prodigy banned from using computers until his 18th birthday where he returns to the world of computers and takes up with a group of local hackers which include the hyper-competitive girl (Angelina Jolie) he has a crush on.

G’nort’s Swimsuit Edition

Despite the title, G’nort’s Swimsuit Edition is not a collection of G’nort in swimwear (although the Green Lantern from the planet G’newt is the centerfold for the issue). The one-shot is made up of mostly art from various artists giving us a wide assortment of DC heroes and villains in beach and swimsuit poses. Attempting to add a bit more substances, two short stories are thrown in as well.

Spidey Super Stories #39

Flashback Friday takes us back to another issue of Spidey Super Stories. Although Thanos is on the cover, and plays a large role in one of the stories of issue #39, the more common thread is the obvious attempt to include women in the issue. The opening story involves a women’s rights march that is interrupted by Mastermind who uses sleep toxin in soda to put the marchers to sleep. The adventure features Ms. Marvel fighting alongside Spider-Man while Mary Jane works to rouse the crowd.

Futurama – How the West Was 1010001

“How the West Was 1010001” is one of those one-joke episodes, this one featured around the group mining for Bitcoin in Futurama‘s version of the Old West (despite that making absolutely no sense). While I’m all for the show taking some cheap shots at Bitcoin, there’s not much else here. The episode is notable for the Mexican standoff we get near the end between several characters in the middle of main street and some usual goofiness by the characters in a different setting than normal, this time in the obligatory cowboy hats.

Almost Paradise – Deus Ex-Wife Machina

  • Title: Almost Paradise – Deus Ex-Wife Machina
  • IMDb: link

The problem with introducing a character’s ex on a show like Almost Paradise is the narrow focus on the current contentious relationship without also providing a glimpse of how these characters ever got together. “Deus Ex-Wife Machina” introduces us to Lisa Brenner as Claire who arrives on the island with her new fiancé (Josh Adamson) to force Alex (Christian Kane) to sign divorce papers. Realizing she needs something from him, and he could drag out the process preventing her new marriage, does she come in cordially playing up their history? No, she goes immediately into the ball-busting mode of the cliched ex giving neither Alex nor the audience a reason to offer her the benefit of the doubt. After being married to Alex for long enough to have a child together, she’d definitely know she’s picked the wrong tact.
