The second issue doesn’t attempt to make sense or shed light on events of the first issue. However, we do see what Oliver Queen has been up to since being stranded on an alien world (his basic street-level heroics taking on space mobsters and the like) and Cheshire Cat joins in on his latest run-in with a paid enforcer to take Ollie down. Our hero remains cryptic about what exactly is pulling his family apart as well as his unwillingness to try and fight his way back to them. This unnecessarily enforced enigmatic view on his existence could get old quick.

Flashback Friday takes us back to 1999 for an unlikely hockey game in Mystery, Alaska. You typical underdog sports movie with various dramatic threads running through it, the film from director Jay Roach and writers David E. Kelley and Sean O’Byrne involves a former local (Hank Azaria) of the town obsessed with hockey getting them some publicity, and making a tidy profit at the same time, by arranging a hockey game between the locals and the New York Rangers.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #1

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #1 launches a new anthology series showcasing Batman and other DC Heroes. However, rather than getting new short stories every week, the concept instead looks to provide separate stories spanning multiple issues, that shouldn’t get confusing. The notable story here is the first part of “Batman: The Winning Card” which attempts to provide the first Batman/Joker story in a Year One adventure of the Batman. Although it eventually provides a memorable creepy moment when the Joker shows up, the story has a few too many parts for its limited page count and is completely disjointed with threads that don’t initially feel connected.

Having nowhere new to go with the series, the Fast & Furious franchise looks backwards by photoshopping Jason Momoa into the events of Fast Five (the best movie of the hit, and mostly miss, franchise) and quickly elevating him to one of its most dangerous villains. At least more enjoyable than the last entry, Fast X is mostly harmless with some extravagant special effects sequences including our heroes chasing a giant bomb crashing through the streets of Rome. Its also mindbogglingly twenty minutes too long while making no effort to wrap up events before the credits roll. How can a movie this long never end?

The unlikeliest hit of any Marvel Studios movie was 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. After a so-so sequel, and appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the gang reunites one last time for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Jumping between stories involving a nightmarish version of Halfworld and exploration of Rocket‘s (Bradley Cooper) past, the return of the most unlikable version of Gamora (Zoe Saldana) we’ve seen on film, the bug-eyed machinations of the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), and the (completely unnecessary) addition of Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), Guardians 3 is a mess. Don’t get me wrong, at times it’s an entertaining mess, but it’s a mess nonetheless.
