Snake Eyes: Deadgame #2

Snake Eyes: Deadgame #2 comic reviewRob Liefeld’s bizarre mini-series continues as Snake Eyes and Scarlett meet some more odd characters in the woods first in another large warrior who Snake Eyes faces off and then in a woman who claims to be his mentor and also works for the god Kirigun. Snake Eyes is apparently a warrior trained to offer sport to Kirigun during the “Deadgame.” Um… yeah.

So two issues in the story doesn’t make much more sense, if any. There is plenty of action here with Snake Eyes in action against both the warrior and his former mentor. Liefeld also provides some narration from Scarlett about her relationship with our title character.

Next - FILE #1 television review

The opening episode of Next brings together FBI Agent Shea Salazar (Fernanda Andrade) and brilliant but disgraced tech billionaire Paul LeBlanc (John Slattery). She’d rather be finishing a case her team has worked on for the past year. He’d rather be doing almost anything else. However, the suspicious death of Salazar’s mentor (John Billingsley) makes LeBlanc believe his former company has dusted off an Artificial Intelligence project he destroyed his reputation to keep under wraps. Branded as “Next,” LeBlanc believes it took deadly action in attempts to keep its existence a secret.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie reviewThrowback Tuesday takes back at 2003’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Adapted from the comic by Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill, the film takes place at the end of the 19th Century when a terrorist organization begins pushing countries to a world war. Tasked to prevent such an outcome, a select team is put together including professional big game hunter and adventurer Allan Quartermain (Sean Connery), Captain Nemo (Naseeruddin Shah), vampire scientist Mina Harker (Peta Wilson), invisible thief Rodney Skinner (Tony Curran), immortal doucebag Dorian Gray (Stuart Townsend), Dr. Henry Jekyll and his monstrous alter-ego (Jason Flemyng), and tagging along for the ride is uninvited American Agent Tom Sawyer (Shane West).

Although the film did well enough internationally to earn back more than double its costs, it had mixed reaction from both fans and critics (and Connery even stated it was a deciding factor in his decision to retire). The convoluted screenplay by James Robinson overcomplicating what should be a straightforward action adventure certainly didn’t do the project any favors.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous - Camp Cretaceous television review

The first episode of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous introduces us to Darius Bowman (Paul-Mikél Williams) and five other teens who become the initial guests of the new Camp Cretaceous attraction in Jurassic World. The parents, willing to send their kids unsupervised to a dinosaur murder park, are nowhere to be found. Bad decisions appear to be genetic, as it takes less than a single episode for Darius to get himself and two walking cliches in the douchey rich kid (Ryan Potter) and the perky social influencer (Jenna Ortega) into serious trouble. Much of the early scenes are in awkward first-person perspective as they focus on Darius’ attempting to win a ticket to the camp by being the first to beat a video game. Thankfully the view ends once Darius wins his ticket so he can get into real trouble half a world away.

Superman #25

Superman #25 comic reviewSince his arrival at DC Comics, writer Brian Michael Bendis has offered up several intriguing stories. Unfortunately, the over-sized Superman #25 isn’t one of them. Despite the extra pages (and increased price), the comic feels incomplete.

What Superman #25 does offer is two storylines, neither of which is resolved. The first involves an alien race, planet, and character all known as Synmar who have apparently been watching over the universe in their own way for millennia. They witness the destruction of Krypton and recognize the possible threat of a sole survivor on Earth and keep vigilance. However, after seeing what he becomes they decide to make their own Superman.
