Although the mystery of the week is relatively simple in “Strangers Among Us,” surrounding a shooting, there are quite a few pieces at play in the episode including a bullied teenager (Jaden Rain) who winds up with the murder weapon leading to child (Roman Kinsella) in a standoff with the police, an unsolved homicide, relationship drama for Laila (Bethany Brown), the resources of the department being stretched thin, and Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk) uncovering a possible connection that might reveal a larger mystery to be delved into later in the season.

Green Lantern #28

Although the cover teases a story involving Hal Jordan and Star Sapphire, the latter only appears in the issue’s epilogue and only for a few panels foreshadowing some larger danger coming. As for Hal, we get plenty of him both on Earth tracking down and terrorizing a criminal from outer space who had planned to terraform the planet to grow a valuable crystal (regardless of what that would have done to life on Earth) and on Oa where the Green Lantern is called in after an unexpected discovery is made by Guy Gardner and Sojourner Mullein.

Picking up a few months after the events of the Season One finale, Watson returns with another case of the week while also teasing the possible return of Dr. Ingrid Derian (Eve Harlow) to the team as Watson (Morris Chestnut) hasn’t found a suitable replacement. However, it’s the final scene of the episode that provides the most intriguing change to the show with the apparent return of Sherlock Holmes (Robert Carlyle) potentially disrupting the life Watson has finally been able to carve out for himself after the loss of his friend. As to what Holmes’ return means, in both the short and long term, we’ll just have to wait and see.
