After discovering the auction is for meta-humans, and that Lucy and Anya have been captured and are not part of the menu, Black Widow orders Yelena to finish the mission and get everyone out safely while she deals with the Living Blade. The parts of the issue not focused on Lucy and Anya making use of the twins to find their own escape, and Yelena scaring the shit out of all the guests to force them to leave, has Nat on the run learning what she can about the situation. 

In a somewhat surprising turn, after it appears everyone is on their way to safety and the Living Blade poses no current threat, Black Widow reengages the assassin when she could flee to fight another day (with back-up, like say the Avengers) rather than pick a fight she knows she can’t win. The early results in their latest encounter don’t look good for our girl.

Legacies – The Complete Third Season

The Third Season of Legacies continues to focus on Malivore as the Necromancer (Ben Geurens) attempts to bring back the creature. Much of the season also deals with Hope‘s (Danielle Rose Russell) reaction to the loss of Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) whose return would be teased in a number of ways. We also see the exit of Rafael (Peyton ‘Alex’ Smith)  as a core character and the introduction of a new character in the muse Cleo (Omono Okojie) whose past connection to Malivore makes her an ally, albeit one with secrets, and the struggle to keep the school open when many parents pull their children out of a place where monsters attack on a daily basis.

All 16 episodes are collected on DVD. Highlights of the season include the Star Wars inspired episode, Josie (Kaylee Bryant), Hope, and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) spending time in a cult, and a musical episode.

For the second episode in a row, Mary (Isla Fisher) crashes into Gary (Josh Gad). This time it’s with a coffee rather than a car. And, after sharing another moment together she runs again, leaving Gary to chase her and learn her unbelievable secret. Other than brining the pair together again, the episode also explores Gary’s past shame and his fears about his daughter (Ariel Donoghue) who has an attempted suicide early in the episode. Gad continues to give a strong performance here as a man at the end of his rope, who has found some comfort in a complete stranger carrying around no small amount of pain as well.

One of the better WWE “premium live events” in recent memory, WWE Day 1 offered a major shake-up to the card with news breaking that morning that Roman Reigns (who was the sole wrestler on the original promotional poster for the event) had tested positive for COVID. This caused the cancelling the scheduled main event and adding challenger Brock Lesnar to fatal four-way match making it a fatal five-way as WWE seemed determined to get a major title on Lesnar no matter what.

The unexpected shake-up of the card helped wake WWE from it’s sleepwalking booking style of the last six months (although sadly the practice would resume once Roman Reigns returned from his short hiatus). The result was some genuine surprise over a WWE show which fans have seen damn little of recently.

The Amazing Spider-Man #89

Ben Reilly has disappeared. Beyond‘s Queen Goblin is still attacking The Daily Bugle. After leaving Peter in the hospital, convinced he’s still not ready, Black Cat arrives to make the save. However when that fails, Peter arrives in the nick of time to save both Black Cat and Mary Jane.

Although we don’t see him in action, other than a quick save to save a confused Black Cat from taking a 60-story swan dive onto the pavement, The Amazing Spider-Man #89 offers us Peter Parker back in costume for the first time in several issues. With his stand-in missing, the comic falls back on an old Spidey trope with our hero out-gunned and his back against the wall. Can Spider-Man, still far less than 100%, save the day? Or will his return be short-lived and need an even longer hospital stay to recover this time?
